To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

When I program conventional frequencies to listen to on my G5, all I get is CSQ on the display when someone is transmitting. Is there a way to program it so that I can see the radio ID transmitting, like I do in trunking systems?

Thank you.

Conventional … analog? P25? DMR?
I’m not sure if you can set the G pagers up with one frequency trunk to fool it, or not. I’m (almost) sure analog would be a no on UID/RID, not sure about the digital modes.

Sorry, analog. And ok, I am not doing something wrong then!

I set up all my analog channels as MDC1200 channels, that way if they use MDC i see the id, if they don't use MDC then it just operates like a CSQ channel

Does having MDC deflected effect receiving analog transmissions if they do not use MDC for their transmitting?

I have not noticed any delays or issues if the channel is set up as MDC with no MDC being used

I just tried with a channel on my portable with MDC and without and the pager opened audio the same, the display is a little slower as I believe it is looking for the MDC

I've never noticed a delay or lag on MDC or non MDC transmission and have it enabled. Is buffer turned on?

The unication will display csq even during a transmission using a PL until it if enabled gets a MDC decode data burst at end, post mdc. It will show the mdc at beginning If the radios talking use pre MDC. Unlike digital where data is sent immediately analog using mdc will require the radio to be programmed either post or pre data or both. Many choose to to use post mdc and there is nothing you can do if they do until the dekey occurs.
