monitoring government & fed freqs

I live in Northwest Alabama. Last night I decided to program alot of federal and U.S. government frequencies, don't think I'll hear much though. I programmed agencies including the civil air patrol, dept. of Energy, FBI, and several more agencies. Does anyone monitor federal or government frequencies? If so, Do you know of any that would be active in Northwest Alabama or any that I could hear from here?

Fed freqs are my main target here in South Alabama. If you are unsure of the frequencies you have or just aren't hearing anything, tryleaving your scanner in search mode from 162.600 - 174.000 MHz in 12.5 KHz steps. You'll run across something eventually. Border patrol here does their check ins for the day around 6:30 AM and there's several frequencies they use with that. The Federal Pen in pensacola has their check in's around 10:30 pm so that's how I found them. It also helps if you have a computer controlled scanner / logger. I use BC785d's and my PCR1000 which record the traffic, frequency, & time as a wave file for me to check out later and document. Really has made searching hell of allot easier.
