It's very sad to see my hobby of 36 years disappear :/
I still have my first RadioShack scanner (Realistic 10-CHANNEL!!) my dad bought me.
My scanners have served me well, from knowing when to get over to the train station to head home from the lake...to meeting Search and Rescue personnel and driving them over to remote lakes to help hikers on the Mantario Trail....being in the dark these days has not been fun I tell ya

Maybe for you, for others it's only the new awakening. Perhaps you need to shift your perspective. I have at any time multiple scanners going at once listening to all matter of things and I am more informed than ever before.
Yes, you could say that probably 99% of public service in US + Canada , Police are encrypted, but it doesnt mean its over.
It's all about what you can still listen to. I'm 60+ first got the bug with a 4 channel crystal RS scanner when I was 17 , I will go down in flames with this hobby , and I'm sure others feel the same way.
Never despair.....

Oh I get what your saying totally! Its just hard getting used to the new norm that's all. We are very limited to what we can hear compared to other provinces...as the system grows I'm hoping we get new material to tune in on.

I agree. Scanning is only a fraction of what I loved hearing for past 40 years. In a city of over 1 million and a province of 4.5 million, scanning is like listening to white noise. Thankfully, the local Fire and some near departments are not encrypted, yet. Then all that will be left is Airport traffic. I just can't bring myself, any longer, to listen to the foul language, idiotic nonsense on almost every business frequency. Scanning, today, is like watching TV with the old off air test screen.
