• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello

I have a brand new Unication G5 and have learned the programing pretty well. The only trouble I am MPSCS Truncking system covers the entire state how or if there is a possible way to monitor say from Genesee County and pick up Wayne county/Detroit talkgroups. From Genesee County I am using RFSS/Site 2-25 and can monitor a wide area outside of Genesee County such as Saginaw, ST. Clair, Washetnaw, MSP, Wayne County, Tuscola and many more around the state. In theroy if the system has all the counties on the MPSCS Trunking system why cant I monitor every participating talkgroup?

Second

Is there a way to leave one knob postion to monitor the system as you travel from county to county throughout the State? This one has me stummped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is my understanding of the RFSS/Sites tower locations?

Thank you

These are issues that are discussed frequently in this group.

In these multi-site regional systems, typically talkgroups are only active on a given site when there's at least one subscriber who is a member of that group affiliated through that site at the time. If all talkgroups were to be active on all sites all of the time, they'd need many more channels on each site to handle the capacity.

You can program a "system" with multiple sites. The pager will determine which site is best when you select the knob position, but it will remain locked on that site until it perceives it to be out of range (purportedly based on bit error rate exceeding some threshold). The site that it chooses may be one that doesn't have (all of) the talkgroups that you're interested in, though. For optimal control of that, you might want to program multiple "systems", each using a single site, and knob positions using each of those systems, which allows you to choose which site you want to listen to at a given time/location.

As @N6ML said, this has been explained in this forum, for more details search this forum. But as a quick explanation, enter the system info, then use wild cards for the RFSS/Sites and no control channels, enable full spectrum scan and set the upper/lower freq range of the system.

Works good on my state system, but as mentioned above it will hold one site until it is out of range, even if you have moved into another site's area.
