What's your point? This kind of topic is going on in several other forums. Tell us something we don't know.

The guy was trying to alert some of us to a link that we may not be aware of...what's so wrong with that? This is the Aircraft Monitoring Forum so it's a proper forum to post in.

He has 7 posts to your 808 which I guess makes you feel superior, right? Cut him a little slack, OK?

If somebody pissed on your corn flakes this morning, take your sarcasm out on them!

Monitering restricted air space can be very interesting. Air space is restricted for a variety of reasons. To find restricted air space, go to Federal Aviation Administration - Graphic TFR's

Most of the time, the VIP restriction is for the President or VP of the United States

Thank you for sharing! I had found that page a couple years back during an Obama visit but had since forgotten about it so thank you.

Nice share.

Thank you KD7ONE for sharing, I was not aware of this site. And Russell, many thanks for taking the words right out of my mouth with your post. :)

The answer is....

RT, the answer is......
I decided to call the local FAA here in Little Rock. After speaking with the supervisor, she indicated most TFR's (Temporary Flight Restrictions) are updated as information is available. For POTUS and VP, the White House will usually wait until 48 hours before a specific visit in the U.S. before releasing the information to the FAA. Other visits for VIP's are released by the State Department or another agency a few days when schedules are confirmed. She said it depends on the individual visiting and the security necessary for them.

Also, she mentioned that the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) has a good graphic map of TFR's, but added their information comes directly from the FAA web site.

On a personal note, the last POTUS visit here to Little Rock, GWB, was interesting to listen to. The TRF was active about 30 minutes before the arrival of AF One. There was a specific squak code required for any aircraft flying in the restricted airspace, otherwise the CAP jets would be on them like bears on honey. The airport was closed to all air traffic, incoming and departing until after he left the area and again upon his return and departure. I have never heard the CAP fighter comms, but just listening to the local airport air frequencies was very interesting and informative. The SS was staged at locations on the field and runway and in constant comms with the tower. All comms were AM and in the clear. Listening to Memphis Center helped determine the arrival of AF One as they were handed off to local controllers.

Hope this helps. I was glad she was open with the discussion but she did make the comment that was about all she could tell me since this was basically public information anyway.

Sorry about that.

RT,
I apologize for not remembering that CAP has other meanings. My reference to CAP is for "Combat Air Patrol". I recall a few years back reading that the USAF/National Guard has fighter jets in the restricted air space on patrol for unauthorized aircraft. The article mentioned that a private pilot was flying in the air space and was quickly joined by two F16's that escorted him to a quick landing at the closest field. He was not squaking the correct code so he was labeled as a threat. The pilot was interviewed by the Secret Service and FAA but was not cited for the mistake. I'll bet he checks for TFR's now though.

If this was the incident with Obama in Seattle then I know exactly what you're talking about. Fighters were scrambled from Oregon and made the mother of sonic booms over my house. I used to live in southern California (Palmdale) so I'm used to sonic booms but this was LOUD. The scanner started lighting up with calls about bombs going off and gunshots. All for some guy and his wife. I couldn't imagine flying along with the wifey then seeing two fighters off to your wings, and when you land your greeted by SS and FAA. Ooops! :D

Maybe I had this link or others like it at one time...forgot about them...thank you for putting it here, even if, as other, less personable, 'members' pointed out, it might be in other discussions.

Peace.
