Have you ever checked your blood pressure while listening to your scanners?

Since having had two open heart surgeries for a mitral valve replacement and a double bypass in the last seven years I got in the habit of checking my blood pressure frequently. Under normal circumstances and even when I go to the doctor my BP runs pretty normal averaging around 125/70. However after a long session of listening to three scanners on PD, FD/EMS and Aircraft it often escalates up as high as 212/110!!! Same thing when watching TV, news, politics, etc. Anyone else ever check theirs and experience something similar?

I've tried various BP medications and also take Potassium Chloride and Torsemide. It must be related to my adrenaline. If I am to believe everything I read on BP, I should have died several times by now.

...is your doctor aware of that hypertensive crisis whilst doing this?

210/110 because you're listening to the police scanner? You've tried medication? LOL... Oh, you had a valve replacement and a bypass... Mmmm... go to your doctor tomorrow and get blood pressure medication or you will be hearing an ALS response call to your house on the scanner. Take care of yourself.

Of course there are some who think the best way to combat severe high blood pressure is to... Not take it, LOL.

Like I said when I go see him it's usually pretty good. I have two testers at home and had him compare mine to his so we know they're working properly. I'm trying to get him to switch me back to Losartan which used to work really well for me. He took be off of it back during the recall for the cancer causing contamination from CHINA. Currently he has me taking Metoprolo tartrate which does not work that great during these spikes but he's reluctant to change it.

But I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing BP spikes while scanning. Is it possible that all the violence and politics could cause that? Maybe I should pull the plug on TV, Scanners and the internet and go up North to the U.P. and hibernate through the winter with the bears!

Actually I bought a really nice chair several months ago, very comfortable and fully adjustable. No effect on BP.

My wife thinks its because I get angry with all the crap going on these days. She's probably right.

Now that makes a lot of sense to me. My BP stays stable but it does go up I'm sure when I see all the aggravating stuff going on on TV. All the lying and hate, and that's just the reporters and now all the violence in my area in Philly with the riots. I've been monitoring the news Choppers and police last night and this morning. My GF says I should take a break from TV and the scanner for a while. I told her the TV is all BS but I'm going to keep listening to the scanners so I can hear what's really going on LOL.

I used to be a political news junkie - radio and TV both. I realized that a constant diet of that put me in a constant state of aggravation. Never checked BP but I'm sure it raised it. Giving it up did a lot to restore my sanity (relatively speaking, of course) I don't think I suffer any ills from my radio hobby except what it does to my bank account.
