Information about these frequencies was posted here back in 2007 by me.

http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66800

Two 500 MHz freqs (507.4875 and 508.1125) on the current license plus the 400 MHz frequencies are missing on the list I posted. I got the information from a post on East Coast Scanning. Since then we have learned that the county IS going to go to a digital trunk system, probably sometime, I believe I read, next year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I thought I read some where that the FCC applications expired and were kicked back.

More than likely all county departments will use the system, plus the police departments, fire departments and EMS squads that are dispatched by county. Kevin O'Brien, a member here and a county dispatcher, will more than likely see this and be able to confirm.

I went to one of the meetings. Its suppose to be county agencies at first. (Sheriff, Prosecutors, etc).

So far, general consensus of the local fire depts, they don't want to go on to the new system. In fact, the Mid Monmouth Fire Chiefs Association, who represents twenty something depts, (I forget the exact number), voted not to go on the new system and stay with the VHF.

Well, personally, I do not know why monmouth county fire departments like having their vhf radio system. First of all, theres no repeater, so if there were ever an emeregency, you can not talk to another unit in the field unless they are within about 3 miles of you. Dispatch can hear all the units because they are the base station, and there recieve range is much farther. All monmouth county needs to do for the time being is install a repeater system for their vhf radios, and also maybe set up a patch system(i beleive thats what they are called, drawing a blank right now on that).

The current system is simplex, thats it! and some receivers at MCPR (I think) and EMS 1 still sounds crummy! (although better lately!)

Give me a vhf repeater anyday.

I'd rather have a nice solid vhf analog repeater system anyday with a simplex ops channel.

Save the TRS and digital for those who are not below grade laying down on their side trapped by the floor above.

The more complex a system, the more likely it will fail when you desperately need it.

1-u/s has gone out to several organizations to educate them about the trunked system that is being worked on.
2-in approx the spring of 08, the sheriff went before the f c c in washington to plead her case for new system.
3-engineer has been hired to begin leg work - inspecting present equipment(radio towers sites, mobile and portable radio equipment) etc to determine what will or will not work and what is needed and where.(malls, hospitals, high rises, etc.)
4-new building (possibly breaking ground in spring 2009) 2 or 3 story with sheriffs law enforcement, communications center and o e m.
5-in order to defer costs to the agencies, i believe what the eventual plans call for is, once the radio vendor is chosen, a trade in will be worked out whereas the agencies can trade in old equipment on top of the group purchase that is worked out. in other words, if mutual aid group A has 2000 radios and 34 agencies, the 34 agencies can mass purchase the equipment at discounted pricing. ( i believe this is what the plans call for - don't quote me on it though! this is the way i understood what has been explained to me so far)

at this point it is unknown. i know that the undersheriff is actively involved. he was a toms river/dover township patrolman who was involved in the reconfiguring of the toms river pd hdqrs dispatch area. he left colts neck a number of years ago. became a patrolman in dover. was asked to set up their police ems unit because of his background (colts neck fire, first aid, monoc paramedic, colts neck patrolman)

If he had anything to do with Toms River, say hello to digital and encryption.

the county systems will be first - highway, health, scat senior buses, and then police fire ems
once vendors are chosen for the actual radio stuff, they are hoping to work on a deal where agencies can trade in old radios for a fee and then have this fee used for the new equipment. they are also hoping to work out a group purchase in order to lower pricing.
this is all ground work that has to be ironed out down the road.
as for now, i believe the engineer has been hired to begin checking present equipment sites to see what kind of upgrades will be needed and where other sites will be needed such as malls, highrises, hospitals, etc.
i have not heard anything else recently but when i do, i will certainly add it to the forum.
i do know that there are many agencies that want to come to the county for 911 services, especially now with the budget crises many municipalities are having. in fact, todays asbury park press mentioned fair haven. i am aware that their pd chief met with the Undersheriff several weeks ago so i would imagine, that is close to happening although i do not know about dispatch services for them yet. that would probably come after the new comm center is started and finished.

I know this may be a bit off topic, but does Monmouth County Police have a Hotline frequency between departments? I've tried the vhf -low frequency but never hear anything. With so many departments on vhf and uhf, there had to be one or they just use SPEN 1?
