Hey All.....Before I begin id like to qualify, I know enough about the subject to be dangerous. Working with a TRX-1. So I deleted ALL sites within talkgroups outside my home range, I dialed back the DSP's to -2 and -4 respectfully and turned ON ATT for those specific sites. Im monitoring now and it still sounds choppy. I know that moving location of radio a few inches also helps.......Can anyone share what they did, settings, alternative solutions, anything before I lay out money for the G5 pager with scanning limitations. Appreciate the input, Thank you!!

Well, the G5 is great, especially for the Monmouth County system.

I have the TRX-2. It took a better antenna and some movement just right to get the systems. I had to play around with it but got it and it works just fine. It may be your antenna since your using a portable scanner. Just a thought.

You should seriously consider getting a couple $20 RTL SDR dongles and OP-25. Problem solved, at least for home monitoring.

Did you adjust the DSP? Values?

I looked at where the towers are. Put some aluminum foil pans around the scanner in every direction except the nearest tower. Might need to prop the pans up a few inches higher. Could use aluminum foil instead

Thank you for the advice. Questions: Will this work through a USB-C Hub without signal loss? Ive got a Macbook.
Yeah the USB-C part should be fine with the rtl dongles. However OP-25 is Linux based, so you would have to install Linux, maybe as a dual boot option. Alternatively, you could also look at SDRTrunk, it evidently directly supports OSX x86 (64-bit).

I had the TRX 1 and 2 and found they don't play nice with simulcast systems. After trying all kinds of things, including a lot of what was suggested in the above posts. Some worked, others didn't. But non works great for me. So I sold both radios and bought a SDS100 and the problem was solved.
