Monroe County is now patching their sheriff UHF freq onto 2173 / Monroe Co Sheriff this morning. Is it going the other way too?

They are trying to talk to some officers direct but the units are digitalizing a bit. Monitoring them on the Dimondale tower.

Yes, they are being patched over to 460.175 MHz. from TG: 2173. I also heard that they were simulcasting on 154.430 and TG 2249 at the same time.

RE:

I can hear traffic on 460.175, it's not the normal sound. Is this the digital radio? And is this how it sounds on the system?

If it doesn't have the little digital screech at the end, it is from the MPSCS system.

Don't know how else to explain it - if you hear a little digital screech at the end (radio ID) it's from the UHF system, if not (I think all dispatch is on the new) it's from MPSCS.

Every unit everytime does not have that squeal at the end, but for the most part they do, the only way that I can tell you if it is tx'ing off of 460.175 is to listen to the MPSCS. If it sounds like the audio is buried in your trunk + the squeal at the end of the tx then it is coming off of 460.175. But if it is crystal clear then it is off of the MPSCS. Currently there are only a couple of deputies that are usings the mobiles in the cars, the rest dont have mobiles in them. All of them do have portables though and have been encouraged to use them. If you are listening 58P911 you will know which is using MPSCS or 460.175.....two different radio systems and there is definatly a difference!

Hope that helps

Is there much fire use yet? Sheriff is still being transmitted on my tower for some reason, but I haven't heard anything from the fire side...

They will not "keep" 460.175 patched but for a year, and as long as everything works out, then they will take the patch down, but for now it is here to stay. As for fire, fire is also patched, the only stations that are using it(MPSCS) as of right now is Stations 29,33,37,47

There is still a Tower problem too! so they are working on that problem and I have heard Monroe on the Flat Rock Tower and the Dundee Tower, so if you are hearing them on a different tower, Great!

...and as I understand the fire main will remain patched forever due to paging issues and first responders with non-MPSCS radios... But ops will eventually all take place on MPSCS, just like Livingston Co does now.

Yes you are correct, however the only fire personell that have or will have MPSCS Radios are Officers, no firefighters.....

If the system portables are so great and get 95% of coverage, why don't they just use the portables for in-car comms. and save some mone by not getting the mobile? Why do they need a mobile if they have a portable anyhow? I could understand with UHF, but not digital.
