This is a total surprise to me, and I've been scanning in Monroe county for over 10 years.

I know that some of the MCSD cars have VHF Astro Spectras in them, which were/are used on their VHF analog repeater and simplex, but I've never heard of them using conventional P25. I don't know if the Astro Spectras are flashed for digital or not. The officers had to turn in their old VHF portables after they switched primary operations to SAFE-T (HT1250's, I think, so not capable of P25).

I'm definitely putting those frequencies into my scanner right away and will report back if/when I hear something of interest. I sure hope they don't encrypt it.

If it turns out to be an active frequency I'll add it to my scanlist on my Bloomington feed: http://scanner.kevinratcliff.com.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the info w8fcc. I'm totally baffled by this. Am I reading this correctly that they added several analog UHF frequencies? I wonder what they could possibly need them for; I didn't even think they had UHF radios.

So now Monroe County Sheriff's Department is licensed for VHF analog, VHF digital, UHF analog, and SAFE-T. So much for getting everyone on the same radio system!

Doesn't IU use UHF? That could be why the Sheriffs Dept went to those.

IUPD is on SAFET, and just about everything else at IU is on their 800mhz LTR system (currently very incomplete in the database)

Wild Guess: Perhaps they are going to use the UHF to backhaul remote recieve sites?

Since IUPD is incomplete in the database do you have the freqs or know where I can find them? I can only seem to hear dispatch side of the convo on 800mhz but not the officers.

To clarify my previous post, the entry for IUPD is not incomplete: all IUPD traffic is on the SAFE-T 53-IUP-DISP talkgroup, and I think dispatch only is still patched onto the old VHF frequency. If you're only getting one side on SAFE-T then something odd is happening. What is incomplete is the page for the IU 800MHz system (LTR, not SAFET) which has many users but only a couple of talkgroups are currently posted.
