Ok Maybe a silly question but I have learned many things about my SDS100 in the two months I have had it.
One thing that has escaped me is if there is a way to even out the volume of the channels on the Monroe County system.

Example, I set the volume to a comfortable level for Ops 5, 6 etc, but when there is a transmission from Roc City fire on their dispatch or fireground it is much louder. Also Roc City police seems louder that MC Sheriff or PD towns west and east.
Also Chili and Gates fire tones come booming across but the voice transmission seems low Thought?

Oh BTW I'm west side of Gates at Ogden Border.

This is a great radio that has many features I probably will never use but hey never say never,

Thanks for the help

You're going to see that across many different systems you monitor. Trunking or Conventional it happens, it all depends on how their radios or base stations audio levels are set up.

I believe you can play around with the AGC settings to try and make things a little better.

I’m in Lima . Right on the line of Livingston,Ontario is the backyard . Monroe county as well . When monitoring ontario/Monroe its not as loud as if I monitor Ontario itself . I’m always playing with the volume to hear sheriff dispatch . When I use the unication g5 all county's pretty much same loudness on lawn and fire dispatch . a fire call will nock you out of the chair loud

There is a "Volume Offset" available in the "Edit Channel" options you can set for each TG you can use to raise the volume of the weak ones. You can play with it but I found it not worth the effort. It seems better to bring up the low ones rather than reduce the high ones. I found that it tends to increase audio distortion and it is more annoying with attempting to reduce high levels. YMMV

The main issues with Monroe are on the patched TGs and that should improve when the system is fully cut over. That is why the trunked only "Ops" TGs sound better than the RFD patches.

Part of the problem is how the radios are set up, I seriously question weather anyone checks levels with a service monitor or they just wing it.
The other problem I hear is the dispatchers themselves and how they use the headset, the volume can have large swings from low to booming when they switch dispatchers. FWIW I believe Gates and Chili are both serviced by Skywave Communication.
There is no AGC on the SDS series scanners, the only adjustment you can make is to raise or lower volume offset on an entire talk group.
Funny you should post this as I have been going crazy with this issue the last few days myself.
