Mont. Co. Trunked & Conventional Frequencies

I have the BC250D programmed with two seperate banks. One for East and the other for West.

In the East bank I have the East TG's and Countywide TG's setup, since I am located in that area and listen to the East zone mostly.

Question is in a third bank I setup the Mont. Co. conventional frequencies. Are some of the 800 conventional a retransmit of the trunked system. Are they worth while having setup if I have the East/West trunked system entered. Are there any 800 conventional that are not covered in the trunked system that may have some interesting listening.

I am about a half mile from the MCCF, does anyone have any information on what type of system and frequencies they use, I have not heard anything on the Mont Co Talkgroup listed for the County Prision.

Welcome to the board!

I have my BCD396T set up with a West Zone, with all TGs, an East Zone, with all TGs, and a Coventional with all other frequencies from the RR Database.

Sometimes I will hear East Zone TGs on West Zone towers and visa versa, so that is the reason for all TGs in both zones.

The conventional fire 800MHz radios are portables and not monitored by the dispatchers.
I am not sure of the Police on Scene frequencies though, I hear PD, FD and EMS on these frequencies. There is still a lot of lowband and highband vhf activity.

By MCCF I assume you mean Gratersford? Gratersford is in the West Zone and I hear that TG a lot, mostly prisoner transport, but always on the West Zone.

Thanks for the info. I have some Graterford frequencies stored. MCCF is the county facility off Eagleville Road. I was looking for working frequencies that the gaurds or internal operations may use. Since MCCF is almost in my back yard I figured there may be some easy signals to pick up. With Graterford I get the Med pass calls and visitor announcements from time to time.

The 800 conventional frequs in the RR database are all good.

Most are low power though so you have to be close by to pick them up.

I have a quick question. When programing Montgomery Co. Do you put the East and West trunk systems in the same bank or separate them into different banks ?

Depends on the type of scanner...Uniden's need to be put into separate banks...Radio Shack's can be put into the same, but it is best to put them in separate banks. If you do put them into the same bank on the RS scanners, then you will need to separate the control channels for the two systems by a conventional frequency.

Just for clarification...the reason I say to keep them in separate banks no matter what is that you can not separate the TG ID's. If you have both systems set up in the same bank then you are going to get the weak transmissions from the other system. For example. EMS transmits the same TG ID's on both systems, so if the scanner stops on the weaker of the CC's then you are going to get a scratchy EMS dispatch, etc, etc. With them in separate banks you can easily just turn that system off.

Thanks very much. That explains why I'm getting a weak signal here in New Hope. I have a BC796D so I will use two banks.

A nice explaination. I have seen a large number of people combine the (2) sites and wondered why some of the talkgroups were barely readable. So as you explained, if someone is near the East system, and has West in the bank also, when the scanner stops on the West system's control channel, you are going to get a horrible signal from the talkgroups which are transmitted on both systems.
