Being new to scanning as I am, I'm returning to MT after a period of 30+ years with a boatload of ECM in my ride, and would like to know what if anything notable I should know about scanners in cars, licensing required etc. I should note that I'm strongly considering obtaining an Amateur Radio license thanks everyone.

No laws known now. I keep my (in car) radio covered never questioned in simple minor stops, but I unplug it if being pulled over(gives feed back) on my end, not sure about them.

Thanks akuter, curious do you have an external antenna by chance?

naa. I have a lower floor apt very near the East Main St Interchange. I use mobile car antennas put near windows and center of bedrooms. Recently got a hi gain portable, still the not the best, Reception gets better past 7th st/19th streets because the Gallatin Co SO/F north tower is on top of Bridger Peak,
