Not that I've heard. I'm hearing control channels from my site above Santa Cruz.

Knowing where you are and what site you are trying to receive would be useful information.

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the Toro Park area just outside the Salinas city limits.
When I programed my scanner I wasn't sure which tower to shoot for,it seems
that they all had a range of about 60 miles. So I programed all 45 freq. and all the
talkgroups. It seems the scanner liked the Mty. Peninsula group freq. 769.8562c
until it quit working.Every now and then I'll pickup some traffic on 152.0600 which
is in N.County.Thankyou for any help you can give me.

What TG's were you trying to listen to? Talkgroups are only active on that site if a unit is connected to it. So were you trying to hear that TG on a other site with no units connected to it you wont hear anything.

EDIT:700mhz sites are bad on my radios distortion big time the VHF are fine

OK. I pulled up my receiver in Santa Cruz and I can hear Toro just fine.
They are not running 769.8562MHz as the control channel, though. They are currently running it on 772.41875MHz.
No idea why, but it's not unheard of to switch control channels if one channel fails, interference, etc.

Not to go too far off topic, but do we know how long the analog system will still be up? My brother lives in the area and was looking to monitor the fire department in Pacific Grove.

Probably not for long. They were pushing all fire agencies a few months ago to make the switch. Not sure how well it went.

He'll still be able to hear CalFire, they are running analog.

Darn. My brother works for the city of Pacific Grove and was looking for more insight into what’s going on with the fire department since no one seems to know anything or is willing to say.

Harris systems use all the frequencies as control channels.

It's going no where the SO and fire channels are staying for interop and coverage in the Big Sur area. plus it's part of the p25 system. Only a few fire departments have the new radios Salinas is the only department on the system full time for now.

They are not going to take down the analog overlay system. It is still being used regularly in areas where there is no digital reception. I hear SO units switch to analog everyday when they can't get out on digital.

Right, the analog overlay is going to stay. Just no way to cover that much territory with 700MHz and likely not enough funding to roll out VHF P25 to the entire county.
