I have a Pro 97 and am unable to get the MCHD EDACS system to scan. I occasionaly see a talkgroup come up, but I have never heard anything. My VHF works just fine....

Any Ideas?

Do you have all the TGs programmed in? MCHD does not have all that much traffic going on. Also, make sure that you have programmed the system as Wide, not Narrow. In addition, I have had issues with RS scanners and EDACS systems in the past. This may not be the problem, however (maybe it's just me). In addition, make sure that you are recieving the data channel. If the system is programmed in wrong, you will get the data channel but no scan. I use a BC396D and get the system just fine.

Check the following:

Make sure the system type is EDACS.

Make sure that the 15 LCN frequencies are correct and in the correct order. Also, make sure that the first frequency (LCN 1) is on channel number 1 for whichever bank it is in.

Make sure that each of the 15 LCN frequencies is set to ED, not MO, FM, AM, CT, or DC.

In case you need a quick reference, the 15 LCNs in correct order are:
01. 866.3250 02. 866.7750 03. 867.2500 04. 867.7750
05. 868.2750 06. 868.8375 07. 866.3500 08. 866.8250
09. 867.1000 10. 867.3250 11. 867.8000 12. 868.3500
13. 868.6875 14. 867.3000 15. 867.8500

Haven't had a chance to test a EDACS system here as the only EDACS system in the area is ProVoice but make sure you've read the manual here and have programmed them into the scanner correctly. You have to put them in order and they have to start at X01 on the scanner not X00 where X is 0-9

Remember the EDCAS systems don't have the range that other systems do. The control channel has to be rather strong. The PHI air ambulance can be heard on the Houston HISD system.

Mchd

I am still working with this... I have a good CC lock and I can watch it jump to different talk groups but I don't hear anything. When I leave it open I get most of th MCSO talkgroups, but nothing on any if the MCHD talkgroups. I am compairing traffic on the MCHD VHF channel and nadda...

On a side note.... MCHD now dispatches for all of PHI south Texas... The phoenix channel is ONLY for EOC communications. There are MANY new talk groups on the MCHD system added in the last week or so, I will try to get those for everybody.

MCHD has a cooperative agreement with HISD,the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and some one else and has or will have seamless 800 trunking over 75% of the state by the end of December.

Don't believe there is a wide or narrow setting in GRE/Radio Shack scanners. Just EDACS and MOTOROLA, and LTR in some. Don't flame me if I am wrong. Also, everything you have for channels 1-15 is all there is, nothing more. If you delete 16-18 that you have, you won't miss a thing. I am picking up MCHD EMS on a Pro96 and BC785D without any problems, both in VHF and EDACS trunked. EMS never ever shuts up, so if you don't hear any traffic from them, then there is a problem with your scanner's programming.
