Update: I took a look at trunk-recorder's logs, it appears that the SmartNet parser is failing on a couple of dispatch calls (Non-Grant with source errors) and fails to record the transmission. It may just be trunk-recorder itself on how it handles SmartZone. Hopefully, switching over to P25 should help parse calls better.

I checked the logs this morning, looks like there was a stretch of time overnight that the SmartNet parser failed. Someone else had a similar error message (Smartnet drops control channel after ~10 minutes · Issue #232 · robotastic/trunk-recorder), and said they swapped USB ports for their SDR receiver. I just did the same just now and restarted the feeder, hopefully this should resolve it.

---

On another note, I just setup my G5 as well to do a wildcard scan of the P25 system. So far this morning, we've had TG 7600 and TG 6595 sending a few test transmissions.

I don't know the Linux flavors very well, but in Windows, the OS can shut down USB ports for power saving - perhaps this is happening? Is the SmartNet parser failing at other times than overnight?

Also, Brad's post about the RVFD using the new P25 system for their parade - interesting. It does show a tg in the 4xxx range and an RID in the 250xxxx range. Hopefully MC will be a bit more organized in defining tgs assignment this time around. I'm speculating that this particular tgid may be an Events channel, we'll see...

In the windows setting you can prevent the OS from shutting down the USB Port by unchecking the allow the computer to turn off the power to the USB port and the USB Port will run all night long..

Hmm, that's a good point. I'll take a look at Ubuntu Server settings to see if it is causing the USB ports to go to sleep. Thanks!

---

Edit: you're right maus92, it looks like Ubuntu has autosuspending USB ports turned on by default. I just set it to disable autosuspend and rebooted. Let's hope this solves it! Thanks again!

At 0815 the call went out on D4 for everyone to go to 7 locks for radio reprogramming sometime today. The anouncment was if you did not have it done at 0600 this morning the make sure went to 7locks sometime today. Sounds like they are getting ready for the switch over which tells me they have all the TG's made up and now we need to be on our toes to monitor and submit the new TG's when they come out.

Contractors out at the Burtonsville site today. Looks like they are re-aiming microwave dishes as they have lines attached to them, extending to the ground.

Does anyone know why the MoCo P25 system shows up in the RR Database but not on the Uniden Sentinal Software?

I have updated to the 12/13/20 Update but it doesn't show the P25. I was going to run a trunking discovery on my HP-2 to help out with the search for new talkgroups this winter into next year but, I cant find or add the new P25 it just will not work.

The pictures I added show the P25 on the radio reference website and on the MD trunking part but not on the Sentinal software.

Any Ideas?

Thanks :)

I believe it's because there are no talkgroups found for the system in RR. A system has to have at least one talkgroup in RR for Sentinel to import it. This isn't a great solution for talkgroup discovery, unfortunately.

Okay after some tinkering I got it to work. Its now letting me search a custom added system which it wasn't letting me before. I have no clue what I did but now it works.... weird.

I'm not sure how Uniden approves systems into their master database, but I would take a guess that it doesn't have any talkgroups listed in it or it's not actively used yet, so it isn't showing up.

There should be a way, however, to manually insert the frequency/frequencies into a favorites list in Sentinel then push it to the scanner. I have a BCD436HP, so I'm guessing this may work for the HomePatrol series, if they both use the same Sentinel software or closely mirror them visually.

This is untested, but it may work:

1. In Sentinel, create a new favorites list and name it
2. Right click on the new favorites list, click Program Favorites List to open it in the editor
3. Create new system, name it and choose P25 trunk
4. In the left hand panel, click on the newly created system.
5. Click on "Sites" tab
6. Create a new site and name it
7. In the left hand panel, click on the newly created site
8. Enter in the frequencies under the "Frequencies" tab
9. (This may or may not be needed) Enter in the latitude, longitude, and range under "Location" tab. Ensure circle is selected and enter in the information as found in the last few rows of the simulcast table for the P25 system. (Simulcast Site Details (Montgomery County, MD (P25)))
10. Save and push to the scanner

Once TGs go out, up to you if you want to delete this favorites list and replace it with the pre-populated one from the master database once it's up on RRDB.

---

Edit: while I was typing up the instructions, your question got answered! Also, the method you chose also works! Good luck with scanning!
