Will be traveling through AL in a couple of weeks and was putting in frequencies for the trip, I notice RR database lists two EDACS systems for Montgomery county, one a 5 channel system and the other a 17 channel system. Which is in use? If both are used, which one would be better to monitor?

Thanks in advance.

The 17 channel simulcast system will be your best bet when you get near Montgomery. I would monitor it until I lost the signal. If you are headed south of Montgomery, then switch to the 5 channel site when needed. It is tied to the 3 site simulcast system that the City and County use in Montgomery. The 5 channel site is used when radios get outside(south) of the simulcast sites coverage. Basically it covers the southern part of Montgomery County.

Montgomery County, ALA 800

:)

I have seen many posts about the City of Montgomery's new ProVoice 800 system.

Am I correct in understanding now that Montgomery County Sheriff Dept can be heard via traditional EDACS?

If so, I'll have something to listen to when I travel through.

Thanks,
Julian

Yes, as well as the City PD. Both of the agencies main dispatch is analog. The County is mostly analog, so you'll hear more of a variety (group wise) from them. But by far, the City's PD main dispatch group 1296, is the most active. Have a safe trip.
