at least you can hear montgomery county. i have been trying for months to get a scanner that can pick them up. i just bought a radio from montgomery county and it still doesn't work. i have the antennae mounted about 50 feet up, but it is not pointed at Mont.co because i have to listen to other agencies. i am 56 miles from conroe, am i just too far away to get them.

Okay, you really haven't said where you are, but 56 miles is a pretty long stretch for Montgomery Co. When I lived on the West Side of Houston, call it the Dairy Ashford/I-10 area, I could not pick them up. When I was mobile (on the way to Houston Amateur Radio) I could start to get them as I was getting off of the Beltway on I-45, lost them and would get them again up the road.

Now for your particular problem, a good beam pointing at one of the sites might work provided you were using good (I mean really good, like hardline) feedline. Montomery Co. is not very strong, all the repeaters are limited to 100 watts and it seems the max ERP is under 170 watts and probably the antennas are all focused into the county so you being 56 miles away, you are really trying to stretch it.

And, Lou, isn't it true that EDACS systems in general don't carry as far as 800 Motorola systems do?

 Ha!

You are not going to suck me into that argument. Just consider that RF is RF and draw your own conclusions. :D

in theory 900 would carry less then 800 HOWEVER! TXU Wide is easier to pick up in places then ETMC is. Even when one might be in a perfectly centered location.

But 56 miles from the TRS is pushing ones luck bigtime! I struggled to hear Plano the other night on Dispatch-2 whoop some dude baricaded in an apartment with a shotgun to his mouth. and I was like only 20 miles from the TRS.

Of course from Trenton (SW Fannin Co.) I hear Mckinney TRS louder then Collin Co. on the same Radio on the Same antenna...Imagine That!
