Montreal has already started to change over radios for the anticipated new 700mhz island wide radio system. This new P25 will be used by the Montreal Police (SPVM) , Montreal Fire (SIM) and all island wide public works & public security depts.

The only exception participants for this new system will be Urgences Sante, the Montreal Island & Laval Provincial EMS Ambulance system who declined to be included and the Surete du Quebec (Qc Provincial Police) who already operate on their own radio network.

The Montreal Fire Dept is already installing new radios with new UID's "i700xxx" from the current "i800xxx" UID's.. the complete change over is planned for later this year 2014.

info on the company that has the 15 year contract for the new system...

I'm still going to say "I'll believe it when I see it"

To review: 412.7625 lasted from 1978 or so until 2001. Since 2001 this will be what? The 3rd radio system?

Someone's being taken for a ride and it's not the radio salesmen.

Well Peter you can start believing it because the new radios ARE being installed to the FD units as we speak.
12 to 15 years is the average life expectancy of a radio system now a days due to improvements in technology. The old 169.050 was in service about 15 yrs.. 412.7625 was about 14 yrs.. and the 800mhz trunked system lasted about the same with only 1 change going from a 3600 baud control to a 9600 baud. This new 700mhz system has been expected to last 15 yrs. All these changes are normal and common for a major metropolitan city to keep current in modern technology.

There's a considerable license pending in the Spectrum Direct database for Urgence-Santé. Looks to be simulcast - maybe two simulcast zones.

One group of freqs:

771.45625
771.70625
771.95625
772.20625
772.45625
772.70625
772.95625

Sites for the above include 3590 Avenue Ridgewood, 1701 rue Parthenais, and 2080 Avenue Harvard.

There's a different set of freqs licensed in a number of other areas:

770.13125
770.38125
770.63125
770.88125
771.13125
771.38125
771.63625

That group is licensed for 8290 Avenue Broadway Nord, 180 Avenue Duke-of-Kent, 305 Boulevard des Anciens Combattants, 493A Rang St-Antoine (in Laval), 1970 Boulevard St-Elzear Ouest (in Laval), and 4380 Avenue Des Perron (in Laval).

The city of Montreal is also licensed for 769.69375 for testing purposes between portable radios and a mobile repeater.

Bonne chance et bonne chasse! :)

Jay ..

these are all the same tower sites for the EDACS RSP Montreal system that is in use at the present time by Urgence-Sante.

The new City of Montreal 700mhz system is said to consist of 4 tower sites.

Mt.Royal ...Upper Lachine rd..Ste.Anne de Bellevue & Ville D'Anjou

Those may be the same addresses as the EDACS sites, but they are most definitely the 700 MHz licenses, pulled straight off Industry Canada's Spectrum Direct site. I didn't make the frequencies up. Go ahead and search (on IC, not someone's download of the TAFL).

It makes complete sense for them to reuse tower sites from older systems.

Nobody said you were making anything up.. just commenting that all these sites you are talking about and that I saw too on the industry canada site are the exact same tower locations as in use at the present time for the various RSP EDACS tower sites.
If they "retire" the current (and old due to be replaced) RSP system in favour of a new 700mhz Logic makes sense the will the same tower sites with new equipment to ensure no loss of coverage.

Duke of Kent is the Pointe Claire water tower. 305 Veteran's Boulevard is the Veteran's hospital. Broadway is out east ... RDP?

Relax there, big guy, you're not under arrest! Lots of cities get taken for radio rides. Happens all the time - think of the poor saps that got talked into Open Skies systems!

1978 + 15 = 1993, and they still had the UHF long beyond that.

As long as they don't encrypt, everything will be fine.

Just catching up on the SERAM thread and thought back to this thread. Millions in radio systems for no additional value.

Boston Fire has been on "T-Band" (483 MHz) since about 1983 or 84. Analog is working just fine for them. No trunking, no digital. They've replaced their mobiles and portables probably 5 times in that period, but the basic system has always been the same. Oh, they have added way more channels, particularly on the HTs (see BFD Communications), but they haven't been taken on the radio ride that so many cities have (including the one where I live).

Probably because the people managing their radio system know how and why it´s working, probably in-house personnel, who also happen to be radio freak (like us) and who like their jobs! just assuming of course but somewhere, look like it....
