Is Tri-State Careflight a DBA? I ask because I can't locate any FCC licenses for them in CO, NM or AZ. No listings for them on RR either, which I find curious. How do they dispatch themselves or flight follow? I would think with that large of a coverage area, especially in Arizona, they would have independent frequencies set up like PHI and AirEvac.

Pretty extensive web site as I'm sure you've already seen, but nothing about Doing Business As, remember they already operate a base in Durango so we should have some flight following and/or frequency information from the SW corner of the state already.

TRISTATE CAREFLIGHT

It appears Zion Credit Corporation based in Salt Lake owns there aircraft, don't know if that helps or not.

Nothing for Zions Credit Corp, Careflight, nor Tri-State Careflight in the FCC database for CO, AZ, or NM. Perhpas they dispatch via pager, flight follow using satellite phone/GPS tracking and use existing med channels in their respective areas. It is interesting, however, they don't have their own communications system like PHI and AirEvac.

Or they could be Careflight Grand Junction who did not see the need to flight follow for many years.

They dispatch on pager/nextel and flight follow on sat-com using a voice over data sat stream. The radios in the acft should be the standard Wolfsburg or similar that will allow them to use VHF/UHF and VHF AM. Should be a pretty silent operation as far as radio goes.

Thanks Mike, that pretty much explains it.

It will be intereting to see if they can make a go of it in Montrose. Will have to listen for them on local VFDs making scenes and then MED 5 for patient reports.

Hopefully they don't make the news the way PHI has this week in the Houston area.
