The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Tell me you didn’t read the review without telling me you didn’t read the review.

Triton has gone thru revisions. The one offered today may not yet be the AT5100 clone, though it’s announced as will be such. A “review” from two years ago not at all consistent with what others are showing? Previous iteration.

Since you don’t like it, think it’s too expensive, etc, why bother posting? Mobile doesn’t matter to you.

It’s going to outsell all the previous ones in the AM/FM/SSB/NRC class combined.

I called Lido today... asked if their headrest speaker mount could be ordered without the speaker as I want to use my Driver extreme 901 speaker.... they told me the speaker sits on a ball socket and it would never hold the heavy Driver Extreme 901 Speaker
so I said can I drill holes in it and customize it... he said they sell a heavy duty one called

Pro-Series Speaker Headrest Mount for $49.99 and $12 bucks shipping

so I said now I can flip that so the speaker is on my left side? ( I'm mostly deaf in my right ear ) they said NO?????? I told them I have a regular cab pick up with a third seat in the middle... I can't have speaker on either side??? how CRAZY but Jim the very nice saleman was sure it wouldn't... I said I may buy it and see if I can modify it.

went out for a few hours.. got home and they called me back and said YES it can be used on the right or the left..... glad they called
back.... so it's ordered

I'm very pleased with my truck CB system... and bought Driver Extreme 901 speaker a couple years ago... but I just never found a spot to mount it... it can't get easier than this... I'll let you know how I like it.

Good news. LIDO products solve problems where projects stall due to mount fabrication difficulty.

We're heading towards Solar minimum where AM/FM beats SSB, the radio is overpriced in its segment , the radio is under-quality for its price point, and the radio is flat-out ugly.

It won't even outsell Cadmium poisoning...

I don’t buy what most YT influencers say when they get their radios for free. Even Simon the wizard *****es about them not pointing out obvious flaws.

I post because you keep boasting about a radio you don’t own. You only see what you want to see and keep saying it’s better than another radio that you don’t own (QT40). I’m being realistic, and i own 5 vehicles, all of which have a radio or 2 in them. Mobile matters, that’s why this radio will fail. The screen will wash out and be blank in the sun.

It wont outsell the QT40/QT60/QT80/CB5000 and their clones.

Even your beloved YT influencer and other forums aren't sure about it.

Price already jumped up to $179.00 in less than a week. I told you it’d go up just like every other radio after initial release. Now pay another $20-$30 for the programming cable and this becomes a $200 radio. Not worth it considering the other options in that price range.

I had a blast with that little Luiton LT 310SDR radio..... fun radio... but probably not the radio I would pick to install in anything.....

but I keep watching review after review on the Anytone 5000 ... that radio looks like it's a winner!!
the size and power seem perfect... someday I'll get one... but not for $189 !!!!!! Anytone 5000
sad to see all these "Smaller" radios priced more than the good Radioddity QT-40 ... the Radioddity QT-40 is the perfect CB for almost everyone... and in the old days.. they were all this size so it wasn't about size but about features and function.

today it's all about size..... I get that

but smaller radios shouldn't sell for more than proven full size powerful radios that have all the bells and whistles

30 watt PEP should make it a perfect "usable" radio for mobile..... I can't imagine what we will have in 5 years if the current trend keeps going.

Watch Radioddity for sales on the CB-5000 as we get towards the holidays. $189 does seem a bit steep for 10-11-12 meters when a 25W RT-95 dual-bander with 2 VFOs is going for fifty bucks less in the same chassis. Granted, the RT-95/AT778 is FM only, and has had a big production run, but if the 5000 becomes popular, I'd expect to see it come down to the RT-95 price range.

If I had an off-road vehicle, I'd want both in it. Easy size to fit, simple controls, and a pretty solid manufacturer.

I wonder if the keypad mic from the dual-banders would let me get direct frequency input on the 5000...

you know, I think of this as a CB and think the $189 bucks is a bit steep.... but I forget that it does 10 11 and 12 meters and CW and FM!!! my God we get a lot now!... and I also forget that 10 years ago if you wanted a SSB radio you were paying an arm and a leg

I guess I just got spoiled with the Radioddity QT-40 always around $169 bucks QT-40 for $169 or the Radioddity QT-60 on flash sales a few times a year for $200 bucks....

I paid $259 for my QT-60 in 2023 .... then I got the flash sale of $209 for a QT-60 short version so I bought it for the mobile...

then Radioddity had a flash sale to get rid of the older long version QT-60 radio's ( the 12 inch long one... must all be gone by now ) but they had their flash sale of the 12 inch version for $179... and I bought it as a spare! I really didn't need it... but if my mobile or base die I'll have a brand new one that will be cheaper than any repair.

later I say the QT-40 on Amazon with buy it used for $109 ... so I bought it ( it was just an Amazon return ... works great)

so I am used to paying $200 for a decent good radio.... but these little "toys" going for $200 when I can buy the best for the same price???? just not sitting right with me... as others in the group and EAFizzle have said they will probably come down in cost and be less than the better radios eventually

So ... I've tried to follow the back and forth here. Do you consider the Cobra 29 a good investment or not. They're everywhere, and I can't figure out if that's a good sign (as in very popular) or a bad sign (they can't get rid of them). Help me out.

The Cobra 29 works.... but it can't hold a candle to today's high performance Export CB's ...the Cobra 29 is not a real "usable" radio today.... it just can't get through all the noise or hear what it needs to hear.....
today's radios have much more features and power.
The best bang for the buck and really a fantastic CB is the Radioddity QT-40 for $169... it has it all, and does it all.
You really want a CB with Noise Reduction Circuity NRC... the NRC in the Radioddity radios is one of the best... the NRC gets rid of most of the background static... so if your trying to talk to say someone far away without NRC all you hear is static... with NRC you can hear them... and with the adjustable power knob on the front of the radio ... you can turn the dial from 2 watts all the way up to 40 watts... and with that power they will hear you!!!... even if someone has a cheap radio and a cheap antenna with the NRC on you eliminated most of the static so you can hear them when most other radios couldn't... and again with that power knob .. if they can't hear you with 4 watts... try turning it up a little until they can hear you
The QT-40 has AM FM and SSB and 10 weather channels... with the programming cable you can keep your local weather channels and the ones you don't use you can program for police fire and anything else you want to listen too.

the Radioddity QT-40 is the same price as the Cobra 29 ... but it has can show frequency .. it has SSB and so much more... I believe it's about the same size too.

out in the CB world ... most of the radios just can't cut it today... in another couple years the conditions "might" make it usable.... but for the last few years.... the noise and conditions just don't allow the Cobra 29 to do what you need a CB to do.
.... they just don't work... they just can't reach other people with 4 watts... they also can't hear very well... the receive on the QT-40 is truly excellent.
if you're looking for a Base radio it's a good radio..... and if you want it for a mobile it's excellent... the key is having it wired to the battery on the positive and having the negative grounded close to the radio .... you MUST use a minimum of a 5 foot antenna on top of a large body panel ... if you only have a fiberglass antenna on the back rack of a pick-up or to the side of a fender.... nothing is going to work very good.... but with a 5 foot antenna in the middle of the roof.... you can truly get incredible range!

this is the NRC in in action
this video should start at where I was showing the NRC.... this radio is a Anytone 5555 N II.... the QT-40 works exactly the same

this video shows a 5 foot Tram 3500 CB antenna on the roof of my F-150 ( when F-150's had STEEL roofs ) the radio is an old President Grant Export with 10 watts DEAD KEY on AM /FM the Radioddity QT-40 also has 10 watts DEAD KEY if it's turned all the way up.... I could just barely hear myself at 20 miles.... without the NRC back on my base station this would not have been possible.
but this gives you an idea of what is possible with a 10 watt dead key Export radio with incredible receive

In the year 2026, no. They’re everywhere because it is/was popular with truck drivers for decades because you can/could buy them at every truck stop, and/or get them for free with fuel points. If you just want to glue your channel knob to CH19 AM they are fine. To truly enjoy the hobby you’d want a radio that has AM/FM/SSB and digital noise reduction (DSP/NRC). For about the same amount of money as a new 29 there are better more feature rich radios available these days.

QT30 is the new C29 for what matters.

— It’s the home run in price/features its NRC predecessors weren’t (however good).

Anyone says SSB doesn’t matter hasn’t enough highway miles talking vehicle-to-vehicle to understand what matters. Hasn’t found the landmarks to where one can be heard at home or the company yard, either.

Tool, not Toy.

IMG_1001.jpeg

A dozen years ago this was considered a VG combo. U980 + KL203. ($120 + $70). Want to Hear, and Be Heard, more than a mile or so? Problem was having to add a West Mountain DSP Speaker in order to clean up the audio that the radio couldn’t.
$420.00

That $120 is today about $180. Already has 30W (add more as desired). Include high-fidelity DX-901 external speaker.
$240.00

Far easier purchase & install & performance for anyone, big truck or automobile.

Antenna System can get the attention it needs as the center-point of the radio rig.

How so? It now costs more than the QT40 and has less features than the QT40. I want whatever it is that you’ve been smoking.

QT30 is the new C29
The QT40 actually looks and operates like a Cobra 29 Classic / 148 GTL. The QT30 is more like the horrible Cobra 29 LX with its crappy backlit display and goofy design.

Why is it so blurry? Is it that hard to take a photo in focus?

Some people are experts I the CB field.... but photography might not be their strong point.. it was clear enough to show yesterday's top CB set up...
When I got involved in CB again a few years ago that radio was already obsolete... bet that picture is pretty old
