I noticed in the FCC Data Base that Mooresville & Iredell County have been licensed for 800 Mhz channels.

I was just wanting to see if there is any updates, progress, talkgroups available and if the systems is operational yet.

Thanks
David

David,

Mooresville's system should be online later this year. The new tower is under construction at present. The P.D. will switch first, followed by F.D. Other city users will follow later. I didn't get to read the link provided by pboy, but I know Iredell County's commissioners giving out money is like trying to pull a wolverine's teeth. It won't happen. The commissioners are bound and determined to get grants for the system and have been smoozing a lot of politicians at the federal level. Needless to say, I'd be surprised if they come aboard anytime soon. ECOM officials were even having a hard sale on upgrading current systems to simulcast at each of the current three tower sites. I'll try to post updates as I get them. It's also good to know someone else knows Mudville exists. Best regards.

MOORESVILLE

Hey Firecop,I grew up in Mooresville ! I saw that Bobby is to retire. I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

I hope is a long time before they go 800 on the fire/ems side because I still love to hear the goings on in Iredell.

The Town of Mooresville has applied for 6 additional frequencies for its TRS.

A filing submitted with this request states that the added channels would be phased in over the next 3 years.

Pboy,

Could you post a link or let us know where you found this out? I was wondering if the Town would apply to get the county's freq's since the county commissioners have downed giving funding to a new system for the time being. Thanks.

Attached to pending application (FCC File Number:0002166457) for license modification adding the 6 new frequencies:

Note: The file downloads as "modules.php". Just change the file extension to .pdf and you can view it. I'll post a capture of the document also.

The frequencies Mooresville has applied for are:

867.3250
867.6625
867.8625
867.8875
868.0625
868.7125

Not any of the county's. The county's frequencies do show up on NCSHP Barium Springs site. Iredell is probably having SHP use the frequencies to keep them active while they deliberate. That is what has happened here in Catawba County.

That's interesting they didn't use the county's. I haven't talked with any of my sources lately. Looks like I need to do some digging.

Thanks for your reply Pboy! :)

What is the status of the tower construction?

I think I have a pretty good shot at receiving that site (with my 800MHz beam).

Pboy,

The tower is up. All the required lights are now working. The last time I checked at the site concrete pads were poured for the hardware locations. I should be able to check it again next week.

Thank you for the progress report, Ron.

Also, here is a confirmation on what is happening with Iredell County's 800MHz.

Mooresville's recent license modification application was returned.

Transmit power issue.

Interesting ... both Mooresville and Mint Hill apply for licenses for 800 trunking, with a maximum repeater output of 500 watts ERP, and mobiles of 35 watts.

Both list tower sites of similar elevation and antenna height.

Both systems would even share one frequency ... 868.0625 MHz.

Mooresville's license gets returned. Mint Hill's license gets approved, and mobiles are authorized to operate out to a 22 kilometer radius ... about the distance to Mooresville.

Anyone familiar with FCC rule 90.635, and how it applies differently to these two licensees ?

Everyone --

My interest in this situation was piqued when I was reading and I decided to review the rules in this matter. I will only quote from available resources due to the fact that There are several places to look and I do not want to post everything here:

Rule 90.635 is located in the WTB Section of the FCC homepage. The return letter indicates table four being the point of reference for returning. Reviewing the application that was submitted, I was able to deduce the following:

Location 1 Antenna Height is 146.3 meters. There are six frequencies that will be operated off of location one that have been amdended. These six all ask for ERP of 500 watts. Table 4 indicates that for an area of 16km/10mi, the maximum ERP is 90 watts.

For an ERP of 500 watts to be justified, than mooresville must be able to justify a service area of 24km/15mi with the height of the antenna as is.

<MY OPINION>My sole guess is that Mint Hill was able to justify the greater service area first. Mooresville would wind up overlapping with the Mint Hill Coverage. I could be wrong since I did not look at the Mint Hill Application. I was just interpreting the rules as I saw them</MY OPINION>

Again, I will not post any references here as they are all readily available on the WTB site.

Cheers

Original license granted was for a location in downtown Mooresville (329 S. Church St.) on water tank. It looks like they failed to take a higher tower (HAAT) into account when the site was changed to Charlotte Hwy. in the modified application.

Noticed that Mooresville has filed an amendment for the returned license modification.

The ERP in question was not changed in the resubmission. What was changed was the location area of operation from 16km to 32km radius.

Have to see if it passes FCC review.

I have not heard any further on the amended app. to the FCC. I did hear that the goal is to have all equipment installed and begin testing the end of July.

Ron:

Have you cruised by the tower site lately?

Wonder what progress SHP is making on their installation.

Hopefully Mooresville can proceed as planned.
