• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I used the video on your tube to get the radio up and running on the local site.
Here is question 1
I am trying to setup a custom scan group. I found it in rpm and started putting it together but how do have it scan that list and not the current system.

2nd how do I load up the rest of the sites. The ct state system has multi sites. On the apx I just loaded them all up and it worked. But with rhe this radio it seems it needs a nac for system/site . How do I set it up to roam

For the custom scan, it needs to be set to Enhanced CC.

For the rest of the sites, let the radio do the work:
  • Turn on Enhanced CC
  • Enter all control channels (CCs) in the Trunked Sets
  • Go to Options > Scan Options > Band Hunt Interval and set it to 0
If you don’t set it to 0, the radio can sometimes enter Band Hunt and ignore the System ID, using only the WACN to find a network. For example:
  • Network A (Motorola) uses WACN BEE00
  • Network B (Motorola) also uses WACN BEE00

If the radio goes into Band Hunt, it may decide “Network B is in my Band Hunt range” and lock onto it simply because it shares the same WACN.

This is why Band Hunt works better on Harris systems Trunking Systems, Harris typically uses unique WACNs, and the feature was designed to operate within a WACN. Motorola systems commonly use BEE00, which can cause conflicts like the example above.

Oh I should add, unless its a Harris Network, you can ignore Band Hunt Data, you can configure it but it wont do anything if you disable the feature in the Scan Options

Preferred systems you can set up and it will do the decisions but its not required.

Talk-groups are Groups.
Systems are basically Harris “Zones” (same concept, different naming).
So if you want them separate you make separate Systems.

Also: triple-check, then double-triple-check your programming before you write it to the radio.

And just to be clear: the advice I’m giving is for educational purposes only. I’m not responsible if you program something you shouldn’t or use it in a way you shouldn’t.

We need to make sure you’re getting the terminology right; are you referring to a “system” in the radio, or an actual radio system out in the world (which for this purpose would be better called a “network”)?

In a Harris radio, a “system” is the thing that gathers all the pieces (control channel lists, group lists, ICall lists, scan lists, etc) together so you can use the network.

In older Harris radios, a system also defined the “zone” the user saw, but in the M7300 and newer radios, you can have zones which contain groups from different systems.

So, if you want scan lists based on zones, use a dedicated system for each zone, and a dedicated scan list for each system.

However, if you’re trying to use zones containing groups from different systems and want to scan those, you need to use Custom Scan. I’ll have to check where you enable that, been awhile.

Also: triple-check, then double-triple-check your programming before you write it to the radio.

And just to be clear: the advice I’m giving is for educational purposes only. I’m not responsible if you program something you shouldn’t or use it in a way you shouldn’t.
Ditto.
