Well it was bound to happen - more and more talkgroups on the NSWPSN are now encrypted including the RMS (partial encryption). The transition to simulcast frequencies and new sites will see the process accelerated and at some point our trunking scanners will be useless for monitoring the public safety networks. Encryption benefits nobody unless there is an inherent need for privacy. All it really does is introduce a lack of transparency and interoperability.

Uniden Australia obviously saw the writing on the wall as they now only sell ONE scanner - the SDS100.

The Uniden Australia website does currently indicate that the UBCD436PT & UBCD536PT as being discontinued products. However that same indication has come and gone in the past for unknown reasons.

I’m told by someone in a position to know that the PT series was imported by Uniden Australia for exclusive sales and distribution by Pactel. They (the UBCD436PT at the start, followed by UBCD536PT) were imported for the Victorian CFA.

Both units continue to be available from Pactel or one of their on sellers (Radio Parts in Melbourne, Gadget City etc.).

Also the DMR NXDN & PROVOICE upgrades continue to be available, but the info is buried somewhat on the Uniden Australia website:
