I see this morning on the RS web site, the RS digital radios are on-sale again. While not as low priced as the before Christmas sales, they are still go deals I think.

Pro-197 $399.99
Pro-106 $399.99
Pro-2096 $249.97

These prices are good until 1/3/09

I think come Friday, I'll dash out to my closet RS and pick up the 2096, I've been interested in this scanner for some time, and is perfect for my area at present.

I hope these sales help someone else out as well.

Cheers!

I see too, that one of the non-digital handhelds is also on sale, the Pro-164 for $149.99.

I might consider picking one of those up too for the portability. Anyone have any experience with this radio and comments about it, I'd love to hear them.

Problem is (in my area any way) that all stores are still out of stock from the big Christmas Sale. Lord knows I tried to find one.
Be nice if they would restock the shelves before they offer a sale price on an item again.

The Pro-197 is in the warehouse. You can purchase this item in ant company store and have it shipped to the location of youe choice for free. The other radios are out of stock in the warehouse but your local store can search their district to find the radio for you and might be able to have one transfered to your local store.

The number of screen failures on the PRO-2096 is very small compared to the number of those sold.

The PRO-2055 has a similar history of screen failures, at a higher rate. However it's not too difficult to fix yourself. It's just a poor connection where the ribbon cable from the display plugs into the system board.

Don't feel too bad. They were just about impossible to find when they went on sale. I checked the Radio Shack web site just before 6:00 a.m. west coast time on the day the sale started and they were already out of stock. I checked about 20 zip codes in and around the areas I live and work (for about a 100 mile radius) and only one store showed the Pro-106 in stock. Of course when I called that store, the guy I spoke with told me "The computer says we have one but I can't get a visual on it." I also called the Radio Shack 800 number and got a smart ass comment along the lines of "Well, obviously someone got up in time" from the woman I spoke with after explaining to her that they were out of stock before most people even got up that morning.

I was going to take advantage of the generous offer that abqscan (Erik) was offering to us RR members to backorder one but I'm still a bit sour on Radio Shack right now. I ended up buying a PSR-500 from Ham Radio Outlet in Anaheim on Friday. HRO has them on sale for $429 right now and GRE includes the PC interface cable and a wall wart power supply (something to consider if you are thinking about a $399 Pro-106). I was told they are on sale through the end of the year and they offer free shipping on orders over $100.

Yeah, I had a Pro-97 do that on me. Disassembled, pulled the display cable, trimmed 1/16th inch off it and plugged back in. Reassembled and right as rain ever since.

Radio Shack Scanner Sale!

I programmed a PRO-2096 for our local traffic reporters. I didn't know much about the 2096 but after a week I really began to like this box! The Butel programming software makes it even better!

Thanks for the sale tip, I have been trying to convince the traffic folks they could use another one of these scanners since they have already invested in the programming software and cable.

Is the Pro 96 on sale as well?

Unknown cause the Pro 96 is not listed on the website. I'm trying to see if any store in this area has a Pro 96. I wonder if I could negotiate the price down to around $150 and I'd take it (afterall, it is a discontinued item). So I'd say finding a 96 (or a 2096 for that matter) is like finding a needle in a hay stack. I want a Pro 106 but I won't be able to afford one. I'd at least like a 96 to hold me over until I can get one (all I have now is a 97 and a 2055 - there is plenty of digital in my area).

P.S. If anyone in the Philadelphia area has a 96 they'd like to sell, please private message me.

Pro-2096 Sale/Promo

If you purchase online (and maybe in-store) you can get an automatic 10% clearance price and then use the promo code of 20STUFF08 to get an additional $20 off. I just purchased the Pro-2096 online for $204.97

When the inventory levels of a discontinued item drop below a certain point, they get taken off the site. That's why the 96 is gone, but yes, it's also on sale for $249.97. I can say my district (Bucks County) is wiped out of all except a few 2096's.

Got A Pro197 Today!

Im in the game again! I got a PRO197 today at the sale price...and yes, I'm kicking myself too for not getting that $299 deal on Christmas day.

This thing is loud and built like a tank! :) Very solid.

He also has a PRO106 in the same store in Stuart Florida. PM me if you need the phone number...and no, I do not have any relationship with the store.

I did not get the USB cable yet. I will be buying some aftermarket software, so I'll get one then.

Look out NACs, here I come! :D

Rock on!

Phil

I did not know that the 2096 had any problems. I got my 96 the day they were released and the same for my 2096 both are still very much used my 2096 has been turned off only to move from the house to the car and back. My new 197 is very solid and I have been running it beside my 96, 2096, 785d and am very impressed I will buy a 106 if they go for 299.00 again also I have been testing my 163 black friday scanner and am also impressed with it.
