• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just picked up the new UBC3300.

The UBC3300 is based on the BC250 not the BC296.

UPDATE: after playing with the 3300 it is more a combined bc250/296.

There are a few differences with the BC250D:

You can select 3 different 'bandplans'. You can press and hold 1,2 or 3 to select a plan. This is done because in Europe different countries have different bandplans.

There is only 1 service search range: airband. It does support the new 8.33 khz Airband step.

All apco 25 functions work, it accepts a digital card.

The computer cable is not included and is an option.

'I suppose so, but what's the purpose of selling an APCO25 radio in Europe? Isn't that kind of like selling a PAL TV here in the states? Who in Europe would want such a thing? '

Not really true, a BC250/UBC3300 without the digital card is a normal conventional and trunk scanner. And there is MOT and Edacs trunk in Europe.
I have a BC796 fixed in my car trunk and also works fine here in Europe.

This scanner does NOT come with the APCO card and you need to buy that card separately if you want it, so it is basically an unblocked truck tracking III scanner. IF you want the interface cable or the APCO card you need to order them in either the US or Canada, as they are NOT being sold in Europe as far as I can tell at present.

So they are not selling an APCO scanner in Europe, but it is capable of becoming one! In effect a Canadian can now buy an unblocked Uniden scanner if they want to and then get the APCO card here in Canada and plug it in, while in Canada Uniden has, to date, only exported the blocked model from the US. We now have choices, as it were, that meet Canadian laws better, since Canada does NOT require blocking the way the US does.

Hope that answers the question raised about needing APCO in Europe, where, as far as I know, one does NOT need it YET.

We did some experiments with apco25 cards in the UBC3300:

The ubc3300 accepts both the BCi25 and BCi96 cards.

Interesting is that a BCi96 is reported as: 'Apco25 card installed, 9600 system' , so maybe the UBC3300 will also do 9600 systems.
