Morgan County Sheriff Deputies & "smaltowns" who still use their
VHF frequency (155.0700) use Southern-Linc HT's when out of their
patrol cars. I'm guessing this is because the VHF HT's won't get out
in some areas, and for privacy.
WHEN will there be a scanner that can monitor iDEN systems!

Probably for the privacy aspect and convenience. Madison County deputies use Nextel fairly heavily. It allows a direct person to person communication with no restrictions of formal radio prcedure that you have on the main frequency. It is the modern day call box, I guess.

Hopefully never! I use my Linc to talk to my wife as well as my work. I see no need for anyone to know what we plan on eating for supper.

That's what I thought. I'm from Birmingham originally and can remember
when you could hear EVERYTHING on 5 published UHF channels plus
a few that were supposed to be "private"!
Those were the "good old days", before digital & wireless phones!
