Rumors that someone was killed in an three-auto crash near Empire Dairy near Wiggins on Sunday are not true, although two people were sent to hospitals after the collisions.
The crash Sunday about 6:15 p.m. was very serious, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Bart Trippel.
Daniel Harris, 49, of Fort Morgan was driving an SUV eastbound on Highway 34, about six miles from Wiggins, when it drifted across the center line to sideswipe a westbound semi-truck driven by Gregory Foreman, 55, of Maurice, La.
Harris’ car then rotated, slid into the westbound lane and was struck on the passenger side by a pickup driven by Ricardo Marquez Jr,, 25, of Fort Morgan. Harris’ vehicle then spun again before coming to rest.
Marquez’ pickup also spun and came to rest on it own wheels, according to a report by Trooper Burl Giffin.
Harris was sent to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and Marquez to the Colorado Plains Medical Center. Harris’ injuries were listed as serious. Marquez’ injuries were minor and he was treated and released from CPMC.
The road was dry and visibility was clear. The westbound lane was closed for almost three hours, he said.
