Has anyone found any patrol maps for Morris County that cover the townships and boroughs?

When I first started scanning back in 1995 I would listen to Boston PD and knew roughly what each district’s patrol area was. Now that I’ve moved down here I’m trying to do the same. Has anyone done this for Morris County already? If I picked a township/borough map would that be just as good or are there areas of shared responsibility? I'm sorry about all the questions. Is there a reference database for Morris for all the 10 codes and unit numbers?

All but one Municipality has there own Police Dept. Victory Gardens is 0.8 Sq Mi., which is covered by NJSP Netcong.

Morris County Sheriff has no patrol functions. Only call-outs for K-9, etc.

Hope that helps.

On the plus side, most towns in morris county still have unique car numbers which i believe go back to the days when they were all dispatched on the 39.02 frequency during nights by the sherrifs dept (were talking 1970's) and then switched over to their own freq by day.

An example is Mt. Olive having cars that start with 32, roxbury with 36, park police with 91.. I forget the rest of the numbers, I was told by an old school cop who started working when I was born, that these numbers are the order that the towns in morris county were founded.

But as far as the coverage, a municipal map showing each town in the county will be all you need. I used to have a monitoring shack with a 6 foot tall fold out map of morris county for that purpouse. Then you can mark the towns PD's and FD's with pins if you really want to go nuts. Or high light town borders in blue, and find out coverage areas for individual towns, and do them in yellow.

Morris County Patrol Sectors

Some of the numbers used are in reference to the towns alphabetically
and the towns that are dispatched by the County Comm Center use the
last two digits of the NCIC # that is assigned to them. Years ago, the
Park Police were 15 cars.

The numbers correlate to the ORI Numbers set up by the Federal Gov't. Morris County is the 14th alphabetical county in NJ, so all towns are as follows:

NJ01401 Boonton Boro
NJ01402 Boonton Twp etc...

Most towns still use these as the first two digits for the car numbers, yet other towns don't:

Chester Boro 31 Cars
Chester Twp. 32 Cars
Washington Twp 36 Cars

It all depends on who dispatches and if they share a radio frequency with another town. When there's a MCREDS activation, towns are supposed to use their assigned ORI # to identify themselves....eg 91A,B,C (Park Police).

We still have to see what happens when the County System is fully up and running. According to sources in the county OEM, all cars should have a radio in their respective vehicles in 2006.

I'm starting to get a clear idea of how the system is set up. Here's what I've got so far. Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Morris County Police have their own trunked system. They dispatch from the Communications Center to their own Park Police cars, serial numbers 91 on Comm – 2.

In addition, each individual township has its own dispatch frequency (non trunked system). I've been listening to Randolph PD on 476.50 and have only heard Randolph units on the air, e.g. "car 3", "car 15". They seem to have their own car numbering system.

I’ve also found a few departments that share frequencies: Rockaway and Wharton are on 46.02. Mendham and Netcong are on 39.02. Montville and Boonton are on 45.34. So whoever dispatches on 45.34 will refer to the Boonton Township units as “car 02xx”.

When someone calls 911 anywhere in the county are all the calls routed to the Morris Communications Center?

How do the County Park Police units and the individual township cars communicate with each other? Are they still using 39.02 MHz?

Just to clarify the Park Police do not have their own trunked system, Morris County does. COMM 2 is the dispatch for both the Morris County Sheriff's department AND the County Park Police (91xx units). The County Prosecutor's Office (Digital Encrypted), Medical Examiner, Department of Public Works, MAPS and MUA are all also on the system. Neither the Sheriff's department nor the Park Police patrol any of the municipalities within Morris County, unlike county law enforcement in other states. The Park Police patrol mainly the County Parks and other County owned properties and the Sheriff's department is responsible for the Courts, Jail and serving Warrants, etc. You will occasionally hear a Sheriff's unit on a motor vehicle stop, but not very often.

With the exception of Victory Gardens all municipalities in Morris County have their own police force and in most cases, their own radio frequency(s). The Exceptions to this rule are Mt. Arlington, Netcong, Mendham Borough who all share 39.02 as their dispatch frequency and are centrally dispatched by Morris County Sheriff's Communications Center. Rockaway Borough and Wharton (Mine Hill) are on 46.02 also dispatched by the Sheriff's Communication Center.

You listed 45.34 for Montville and Boonton. I doubt you are hearing anything on that frequency as Montville is on 478.275 and P25 Digital and Boonton Twp/Borough are on 151.2275/151.2725 and have been for some time now. I haven't heard a peep on that frequency in well over a year and don't believe anyone still uses it anymore in Morris County, but could be wrong.

You should look at the Database section of this site as it has all the detailed information for Morris County as well as the other 20 within the state.

Actualy most towns have their own PSAP's where they take 911 calls. If you call 911 in randolph you get routed to randolph, if you dial in roxbury you get roxbury, if you dial inside mt olive you get mt olive... each PD has their own answering point, with the exception of some towns which are dispatched by other towns, or the comm center. Cell phones are routed to the nearest PSAP to the tower. If a towns 911 goes out, the calls are routed to the nearest town.
