Hello,

On the night of 09/09/25, I intercepted a transmission on the Ontario Fire Marshall FD mutual aid channel (154.070 MHz), which was in Morse code. After slowing down the audio significantly, I listened and decoded the Morse code, and it spelled out "XJG573." I'm curious about where this station is originating from. I checked the TAFL and RR databases, but there were no results for that call sign. I was receiving distant signals that night, so it might not be a nearby station.
(Receiver location in Waterloo Region, ON)

Here is the audio for that Morse code:

Propagation was excellent last night. It is not uncommon to hear Morse IDs on some conventional channels. As you have found decoding the code will give the call sign. The OFM frequency listed will have a ton of local FD on it. TAFL is so heavily redacted that it is almost useless.

Propagation has been excellent! Over the past few days, I've received fire pages from several areas: Lambton County, Elgin County, Niagara County, NY (which I usually get), various fire departments in the Niagara region, Bruce County, Middlesex County, and recently, North Huron Fire, among others.

Good propagation means lots of data compiling. It helps us all keep our data bases current.

Yes!, and I've been listening for fire tone-outs too, decoding them and then putting them into an Excel file to build lists for departments that I can hear.

I do the same for the trunked systems. The meta data makes it a bit easier to identify some of the encrypted users.
