Hey guys. I just recently purchased a RadioShack PRO-97 scanner and found some talkgroup ID's on the net for my area. However, I have no clue how to program these to work. I've read the manual 4 times already and still can't figure it out. Can anyone please shed some light on what I need to do besides programming the ID's into the trunking section of my scanner? ANY info will be appreciated!

moto II newbie

program the frequencys in first. for example 856.9875 etc. make sure you're in mot mode if you hear the control channel you should be able to program talkgroups. make sure the talkgroups are in mot mode as well. on the pro 96 when you hear the control channel you press program then trunk then you program the talkgroups.

Where I always run into trouble with Trunking with my Bearcat 785D, or Bearcat 246T is that you put in a frequency, then it asks for the next frequency. Welllll, being that that was the only frequency you have, it brings programming to a quick stop :(

A trunking system with only 1 frequency? Which one?

Not that it matters - there's got to be a way to tell the scanner "that was the last one".

As to a frequency being Trunking or not, I have to guess at the sound I hear. Buzzing or one that sounds like buzz's & tones together I think are Trunking, but that's the problem I've always ran into: As a example say a Frequency I hear what I think is Trunking tones on is 867.000 MHz. to pick a nice round number. :)
I put 867.000 in either scanner, it accepts that one, then they tell me to program in the Next Frequency (Or Next Channel? Haven't re-attempted to program Trunking in either for a few months) and that's where it ends. No second channel that I know frequency of = end of attempts.

Look in the data base for that area, and see if one of the control channels for one of the trunked systems matches the frequency you found. If it does, you'll have full info on that system - frequencies, talk groups, etc.

I was under the impression, that a lot of newer scanners didn't need all of the frequencies for MOT Type 2 Systems. As long as it had the correct ctl channel programmed.

You're right. If the system is like Warren,MI you'll need the Control Channel and the Alt's (Warren,MI switches the CC every day).

I've had the 785D about a year and a half, with no Trunking luck. Am fairly sure there is Trunk stuff in Fresno County, but who, or what types I don't know. I don't think I can get into the Trunking sections of the Database.
When I've tried to program Trunk, I've had to go by the "Well, not getting anything with the one frequency I have, let's try this mode" method, which isn't too good. :)
