The local Longhorn's restaurant is using the Moto XV1100 1 watt- 1 channel radios. I found the Moto info site which lists all of the freqs available for this radio [you need a license]. They also note that there are 3 types of 'security scrambling' to prevent eavesdropping. Anyone know what kind of 'scrambling' Moto uses here?

That sounds like it would be voice inversion. It is really easy to moniter with a computer, so it's not that secure. You can find free programs online that will decode voice inversion. Another one could be Encryptain (spell check?), there should be 2 to 3 types, one being rolling code and i can't remember what the other type is called.

Just a guess, but this sounds similar to one of Moto's FRS radios that use inversion scrambling with three possible inversion frequencies. Not very sophisticated I suspect.

I see Costco US sells these for $150/pair. Neat-looking radio. An aside question...are these MURS compliant?

These are the XTN series:

Here's part of the Moto blurb

The XV1100 Radio includes the following:
1 Watt of Power
27 VHF Business Exclusive Frequencies (FCC License Required)
Designed to Mil-Spec 810 and IP54 Specifications
38 Analog and 83 Digital Interference Eliminator Codes
3 Scramble Settings To Reduce Eavesdropping
3 Audible Call Tones
VOX (Hands-Free Use With Accessories) With 3 Sensitivity Levels
Cloning Compatible (Multi-Unit Charger Required)
Drop-In Charger Compatible (Drop-In Charger Required)

I have to go back to check out the radios. I didn't see them the last time we were there. Only go every couple of months. Waiting for my Opto Scout to come back from repair.

They just use voice inversion. The 3 choices are slightly different inversion tones. For example setting 1 inverts around 3300hz, 2 around 3700hz and 3 around 2600hz. Very low security, but better than nothing.
