I have just got from a PD surplus property property sale a Motorala cm300
I have yet to plug it in
I am intrested in useing it as a scanner in Lake County
is this possible?

What frequency range is your radio? If it is VHF (150-160) then it will work on some of the remaining fire channels. Most police have switched to 800 MHz. with encryption so will not work with that or any other radio easily obtained.

Due to the limits of the radio, difficulty in programming and other factors you would be much better off with a regular scanner.
