To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have some extra Spectras and Mcs2000 that i would like to use to stream audio. I currently have some scanners doing the stream. But i would like information on the pinouts that i cannuse to have clean audio. I have tried to use speaker level to line level adaptor. Works great for the scanner for audio. But on the spectra not to good. I did adjust the levels.

I have looked on the net and looked at some service manuals. On the mcs2000 it appears that pin 11 might be a filtered audio. If this is the case, what other pin would i use. My thought is that pin 11 is the tip. So im looking for the ring.

Does the spectra have the same thing. It seems that it just has a discrimator output.

Thanks for the help

Hiding in a coffee shop.
Spectra:
Pins 8 & 11 will give you detector audio out. It's a DB-15 connector, and you can still find those if you look around.

MCS2000
DB-25 connector. Pin 10 & 11 will give you filtered audio out.

Nice thing about those outputs is you can still use the speaker and volume control for local listening and it won't impact your feed audio.

Thanks for the reply. That was a concern was the volume and being able to use it.

Just remember that there is a DC bias on most of these connections on Motorola radios. I would suggest using something like a 1.0 mfd. capacitor to block any DC bias voltage you might find on these connections. Makes using connections on radios like these much more user friendly.

MCS2000's work very well for this. I've had several over the years used for private feeds.

Is the detector audio out of the spectra equivalent to the filtered audio out of the MCS2000? I tried an Astro spectra once using the detector audio out and it would not work for a feed application.

Detector audio is not squelched, so all you'll get when it's not receiving is white noise. You'll be better off with the MCS2000. Ditto to the ground loop isolator, no matter what radio you're using or where the audio is coming from.

If you are going to use a Spectra, you're gonna have to use the ext speaker out pins, with the aforementioned ground loop isolator
