• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone,

Hope all is well and I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and traveled safely where you went to. I have a Motorola APX 6000 AN model 3 VHF with top/side display with full keypad that was turned into a XE version (original owner of the radio before me). The radio has a XE flashcode from what a local Motorola dealer stated to me when the tech replaced my battery for a impress two extended life battery. The radio has ADP, AES-256 and AES-GCM encryption and also has a XE500 microphone. I was wondering how much this radio and microphone cost as a package? The serial number matches the radio but the flashcode is upgraded. Radio is in excellent condition hardly ever used it.

Thank you for you're time.

My vendor would charge about $5500 for that radio new. My employer does not get a very good discount as they buy one or two radios at a time instead of a 100-300. However, we have been buying APX6000XE radios, which are about $400 more, with that microphone being another $410 or so, everything being new.

In the used market, we would need to know if the flashcode was updated the right way (which help the radio gain value because of the options you added) or the wrong way using depot, in which case, we can't know if that radio was used as and ALT radio...

I really like how you explained the reason why Depo radios our looked at in a bad View. Me personally I don’t care if it’s a depo radio or not. Just that it works lol.

Same for me when it comes to personnal radios. But I also buy used for some agency's less fortunate, but they need non DEPOT radio because they won't allow it on the network.

Technically the radio is not legit, as MSI never offered any sort of "XE upgrade/conversion". Either the radio was born that way, or someone hacked it to install the larger control top and would've had to use Depot CPS to modify the FLASHcode.

Some people care about that stuff, others don't, so it may or may not affect the value of the radio if you intend on selling it. If you're just looking for a rough estimate for insurance purposes, probably not more than $3,000. The 6000AN was discontinued in 2016, replaced by the BN models.

for personal use, I think most people care not if the radio has been depot'd, as long as it works and does the intended job. Almost every XTS you buy now has been run through depot to whore it out. I have 4 XTS' and they all have been depot'd at some point to add features for the flashcode. However, in commercial/agency applications the legal implications and not to mention dealing with ol' /\/\ can become problematic.

Here's the flashcode DA202A-211790-9 from what also the technician stated the radio came with a 1 year warranty when he was looking up the radio information for me for the battery and the VHF/GPS antenna.

The used apx market is becoming well stocked with devices. APX6000 XE AN mod 3 has been discontinued and not sought after as much as the BN model. A 6000AN with a decent flash is probably around 1100-1500 in the used market. XE 500 mics run 200-250ish as long as the cable is actually good. the cables are known for going bad. I have 3 that everything works except light. Put a new cord on and then it all works. The price can vary a little bit if the radio is pre 17.11FW.

Firmware is 17.11 I haven't upgraded the firmware as of yet so I am just keeping it there for now since I never had any issues since owning the radio since I bought it.

Yes sir very helpful. Do the older AN models bring value cost as well or does the BN newer models have better value cost if someone wants to sale a APX 6000 to someone?

It really depends on what the person who is buying it is using it for. I only have a 7000XE so I am not very familiar with the difference between AN/BN. But for example someone who wants to have the radio added properly to thier work system would want tags, the proper flashcode the organization wants, not touched by depot etc. someone who is just buying it for ham stuff would want FPP, so in all reality everyone will give you a different opinion on how much it is worth
