• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

as a back story, our county requires ASKs to get on to the trunk system. We went through the vendor they asked, and the vendor said that the radios are not supported for a flash upgrade. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

You can use an ASK in a 7K even if it isn't in the Flashcode and if they make the ASK write-protect you will always need it.
Just have them make an ASK for you and load it in CPS.

They want total control, so they want the ASK enabled box to be ticked unfourtanalately

They just cut off flash upgrades for the AN series 6000/7000 portables and some mobiles 12/31/2023. You may could beg your rep to push one through. I am not sure if they will process or not, the worst they can tell you is heck no. I do agree that if they would just write protect the ASK then its really close to the same thing as ASK required.

That's right boys and girls! All these Ebay ripoff artists wanting four figures are scammers. The AN 6000s are kicked to the curb. No depot service. No parts like control tops. No more flash upgrades. Nada. I wouldn't be surprised if future firmware packages aren't backported either.
Your ANs have been sent to die and put out of their misery. Pony up for a BN or APX N series. The days of keeping subscriber radios for 10 years or more are over.

That makes zero sense, they can write protect the radio just for their system and can also control the range of EID's and TG's you would be able to program. Requiring the check box in CPS adds no value to you and actually removes your ability to program another system that might just have soft keys (yes they are still out there). I was setting limits on users programming permissions as far back as our MTS2000's when ASK's first came out.

Pains me as I have two of these radios, one with the stricken firmware I need to get upgraded before it becomes a worthless brick forever. Guess I should sell them while they still seem to have some value and grab an 8000.

That’s called system admins that are trained by Motorola and don’t know their head from a hole in the ground.

Oh no, so the APX7000Rs we bought in 2010 that still do everything we ask of them and are working fine on fw29 were expected to stop working 4 years ago? Whatever will we do? /s

Not sure what your vendor is exactly referring to (who knows what he/she asked for), but you can still get flash kits for APX7000 XE's. I would guess non XE models as well.
