To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, This may be a frutile effort, but I acquired a Astro Saber 3 and tried to program it and had no success reading it. Would start then stop when radio went into self check, I checked my cables and connections and kept getting - communication failure with radio.
I check another 2 astro sabers we have and it read them fine.
I checked the service button only to find out it was last programmed on R07 and we have all ours on R05.

Does anyone know a backdoor or shortcut around this??

Any help appreciated

Astro Saber CPS last version was R05.03. Not sure how anyone would have programmed it with R07?

If you have R07 CPS (not RSS) you should be able to read anything.

Service button. That makes sense now.

Your firmware is probably R07. To program it you’ll likely need R05.03 CPS.

What is a service button ?

Turn the radio and within the first 10 seconds hit accessory two ( ⋅ ⋅ ) five times. It will put the radio into service mode and display hardware/firmware versions and set you up in a generic test menu.

You're confusing FW version with the programming SW version. You can't tell which version of RSS/CPS the radio was last programmed with via the service mode.

As was suggested, you'll probably need the latest version of SW to program and/or read it.

It uses the same CPS as the XTS3000 .. it is easily found... You will need the correct cable as it is AS specific and a RIB.. Also it needs to run on an older machine I use an old CF29 with Windows XP and a Serial port for the RIB...

Morning y'all. I have an astro saber3 with toshiba 1910, rib and cables. Called Motorola to purchase the rss for it and they said it is obsolete and not available.
Any ideas where I can find the rss for this setup? Don't need to be the latest so long as it works. I'm trying to program frequencies other than the 148.125 it came with.

It does not use RSS it is Astro CPS and is long since gone from Motorola and you should use the latest which is 5.03.00 .. It can be found in the wild...
