• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am not sure if this is the right place but here it is..

I am currently working on a project in my department to replace our motorola batteries more frequently. Does anyone have any or know where I can find some data or info as to the life span of the batteries and/or care and maintenance of them. We currently have batteries that are several years old and simply dont hold a charge more than 2 hours. Any help would be greatly appreiciated

We use a Cadex 7000 Analyzer/Conditioner on our batteries and even with that
since the batteries get so abused and returned so un-often for conditioning we
only get about 2 or 3 years out of them and even that is a stretch. If you can
get the users to return them on a regular basis they may last longer.

Batteries have a reliable life span of about 500 cycles. Meaning each time you put a battery in a charger is a cycle. If you have a conditioning charger, it can prolong the life. But as mentioned before, it has to be done regularly and properly.

We went from practically zero battery maintenance and replacement of batteries at about the 22 month point (18 month warranty from the vendor, so some got warrantied out...), to where we try and be hands on with each battery and condition on the Cadex unit every 90 days. Our average battery life is now about 2.5 to 3.5 years, minus those where clips break, or there is physical damage to the battery.

Of course, with the newer XTS radios and the Impres batteries, the battery decides when it needs to be conditioned and it happens automatically. We also have less "battery creep" with these batteries for some reason.
