• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I purchased a 2500 recently that is working flawlessly. It came with a used NTN9858C OEM battery. I’m getting about 8 hours on RX only mode. That tells me if I was using it to TX I would get half that or 4 hours tops.
So my question is, what is the highest OEM capacity battery available for the XTS 2500?

NNTN7335B lithium ion, rated at 2800mah.
FWIW the 9858's are old school NiMH, how old they are will last, brand new fresh date code they're good for a 12 hour shift at rated duty cycle.
Old, worn out after 2 plus years, expect about what you're getting.
What is the date code?

It says 1418 on the back of the battery. I guess it’s the 18th week of 2014 then. Yeah time to go. Thing is that if I switch to Lithium I have to get a new charger too no? This impress one probably won’t work, or will it?

if the charger supports lithium ion batteries, it should charge it, but you'll lose the IMPRES functionality and battery gauge. That being said, IMPRES single chargers for this series are dirt cheap, around $30 on Ebay, just make sure you get one that is V3.40 or higher for charging XTS2500 batteries. The version number is printed on the sticker on the bottom.
Your correct on the date code, 18th week of 2014, which makes it close to 6 years old.

I spoke to the seller I bought the package from. He said he upgraded the firmware on the charger to the latest and that it will handle lithium ion batteries. However he told me he upgraded it to vs 3.11 so I’m a little confused. There’s a huge numerical difference between 3.11 and 3.40

They redid their FW numbering system. In the past, an upgrade from 3.9 would be 4.0. Now they just upgrade the numbers after the period. So since 11 comes after 9, that’s how it’s now done. Makes no sense, but who am I to wonder why.
