Anyone familiar with programming a CDM radio in order to use a programmable mic? I was able to program the radio so that it works when plugged into the front of the radio, however when i plug it in to the rear via remote mic hook up of the car it doesn't work. Is it a programming issue or a wiring issue? Can it be used to change radio functions from the rear of the car?

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The pins needed for the programmable buttons to work are on the front connector and already wired. The rear 20 pin connector usually is only set up for the external audio and the push-to-talk. There are programmable input and input/output pins on the 20 pin, but you will need to wire those up and program them to work correctly. Not sure what it would take to get the programmable buttons to work the same on the rear connector as the front.

My fire chiefs car has a radio mounted up front and a remote mic and speaker in the rear at the command post. I programmed the radio to revert home and revert home 2 for two of our fire ground frequencies so that i can switch between the 2 while standing at the command post with out having to keep walking up front to keep making the switch.

There are pins on the rear 20 pin connector that can be used to select many functions. Likely reverse engineering what he has is what you need.
Pins 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 14 are digital inputs and/or outputs. Pin 9 is an analog input. Programming those pins correctly and adapting the microphone to trigger them would get you what you need. I don't have the programming software with me, but it probably wouldn't take too long to figure it out.
