MOTOROLA EDACS SYSTEM and the UNIDEN BC-296-D

I am having difficulty in programming talk groups into my BC-296-D with a group that contains a Motorola EDACS networked analog system. The frequencies, talk group tag and other data program fine, but the actual talk group codes don't take when I read the radio back. I have also tried it manually without Uniden and ScanCat softwares.

Of course it would help if I knew what format the group codes are supposed to be entered. For an example, Do I use the DEC code or the AFS code numbers. I have tried both. In this sites Florida section for Collier County it says that group 15-157 (AFS) is busy, but is that what I use? In the instruction manual for the Uniden 296-D, it states use the agency code 15- seperated by a dash, says to use a period instead of a dash, then the specific group number 157. I tried it with a dash and period and it won't take. The Uniden software instruction sheet for the 296-D seem to contradict the owners manual. There it says to use a dash, not a period for imputing talk group data. Hummm, which is right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I couldn't tell you about the Uniden (garbage) software or ScanCat, specifically, but if you are programming in AFS or DEC values you must have the appropriate setting in the software AND in the scanner bank setup. In other words, somewhere within the software when you tell it that a bank will be EDACS it asks for the ID format.

If you cannot manually enter in an AFS code in xx.xxx format, the scanner bank setting must be set for DEC input.

It is not a motorola edacs system. It is a MACOM edacs system.

If it won't take, it sounds like you have the Trunking Type set incorrectly. Make sure you have it set for EDACS Wide Band. The scanner defaults to AFS, so unless you want to use digital, you should be all set.

This Uniden programming shortcut is for the 250D but should work for the 296/785/796. It's in RR Wiki so you may need to join.

Well, its not Motorola, but it is EDACS made by the other company. According to UNIDEN service folks I should be using wide band settings. Hence, I have changed the field and now it lets me enter the AFS code as two numbers seperated by a "dash" then 4 more numbers using software. If you use the keyboard on the scanner you use a "period". When I read it back it converts the AFS code to DEC numbers. Not sure why, but it is consistant on all entered channels. I have no way to test it until I visit the area where the system is in use, SW Florida(Collier Co). I'll be there in June and let you know how it works.
