• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a chance to buy a FDNY knob from a radio owner. They are for a xts3000 and 5000 models.

How much is the value for one of those knobs on how much I should pay for it? They are asking 35.00 bucks for one of those knobs.

Thanks

Correct since they are discontinued items a seller can ask anything for it. They look like molded clones though. Either way same thing I suppose.

You betcha platinum all the way. With this type equipment it is what demand is and since it's discontinued by /\/\ a person with spare parts can bank off it. I tend to buy spares while items are in Stock also to prevent needing a part later and paying dear.

Actually I bought one of these knobs for the 35 bucks and boy I love the knob. I know it was a little costly but that knob snapped on so perfect and it is snug as a rug. Very happy. Since I have big fingers and hands its just so much easier for the volume up and down and the on and off with ease now. I bet if you buy some quantity then you can probably get the price down.

I have some of those modified knobs. I like it better then the original. With 3d printing anything is possible.

I have a couple of the new knobs and I knew they were good because I can hold the knob that is on the radio and swing it around and it is so snug as a rug and does not fall off. Also, there is a center rubber pin in the middle of the knob that fits into the plastic insert to hold the knob.

That was the best selling point of these knobs. A little steep on the price but awesome FDNY knob
