It looks like the Centers for Disease Control UHF P25 DTRS (which has 3 sites in the metro Atlanta area and one in Ft. Collins, CO) was merged into a system called Motorola Federal Solutions P25 (Sys ID 3CD) that hosts certain VA operations in Orlando and Miami. Does anyone have any background on this system, who runs it, and how CDC ended up sharing a system with two VA hospitals in a different state and nothing else?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, I wrote about this in the January 2020 issue of The Spectrum Monitor magazine.

Motorola Federal Solutions is the owner of the trunked system. They manage the system core for the various federal agencies, who are the subscribers to the system - customers, if you will. This allows the federal agency to have a functional radio system, but it is maintained and operated by Motorola. This was a way for federal customers with limited budgets for a whole radio system to acquire access to a trunked network, but just as a customer that pays for access.

The trunked system core can be connected to various agencies and trunked sites across the country as needed, as long as a network connection can be made to the trunked sites. The system is set up so that the various agencies can utilize it at their facilities and sites, but they are using separate talk groups and have no crossover between the different agencies. Sites can be VHF, UHF or whatever is needed by the customer. They don't really share anything other than a system ID.

Has this been added to the database yet?
