Motorola Fire Station Alerting

If this has already been answered, please accept my apologies. But at an area fire department,when they get a call the radio beeps four times. At my department we just have a Minitor V plugged into an amplified charger. Would anyone know what motorola alerting system the other fire department may have?

These may be simple emergency alert tones that could either be attention getters or indicate a call type, such as EMS vs fire. In a noisy area, it is easier to recognize tone sequences than understand the audio.

If they are trunking, it sounds like they are sending a Call Alert to the station radio. If they aren't a popular way that Motorola uses is called MOSCAD (Motorola SCADA) that is a modified telemetary system that is also used to monitor radio system alarms.

If you have a Minitor V, I assume you are using QCII as a signaling format. Although Motorola developed the QCII format, many other manufactures use the scheme in their radios or decoders. Once a page has been decoded properly, the sky is the limit on what you want to happen. Chimes, dorm lights, door openers, stove cutoffs.

There is no telling what the other department uses unless you ask them specifically.
