• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Motorola GM300 Programming - Radio not detected

Hi All, I got an old Motorola GM300 recently and since some of the local repeaters were already programmed in that, I never cared to reprogram. Now I've moved to a new location and when I tried to reprogram the device, the radio is not getting detected in the software. I understood that it was modified from 16 channels to 30 channels when it was given to me and on checking with many friends, they are giving me a note that it cannot be reprogrammed again. Any options are there to factory reset it or revert to the original 16-channel mode for programming it via the original software? Regards, Harry

Alot ot unpack here. Are you using a DOS PC ? RIB ? Programming Cable ?

These are old radios but with the proper stuff they can still be programmed. We need much more detail than given to help.
I am using a Win 7 PC with an FTDI programming cable.

DOS doesn't do USB of any sort. If your "FTDI cable" is plugged in to a USB port, you found your problem. You do NOT need a RIB, but you do need the proper OS (DOS not Win7) and "ribless" serial programming cable.

I never did understand the "old and slow" comments, I can program a GM300 all day on my i5 and i7 Toughbooks booted into DOS from a flash drive.

I tried to connect gm300 via FTDI cable to Radio Doctor software for programming. The FTDI is getting detected as a USB serial device in the device manager in win7

Quick Update - I've managed to sell that device to another HAM who is staying near my old place and who only need to access the repeaters which are already programmed in it.
