• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

As im sure a lot of people are aware there are some ebay sellers offering the gp380 (ht1250 equivalent) to the us market, unfortunately for myself, this was the best motorola i could afford at 200 with software and cable listed as a used item but actually arrived brand new. I say unfortunately because id like to have mdc1200 just to have the option... All of the 1250s 750s even jt/ht1000 and the gp 68 which should fall into the same catagory certification wise as the gp380 were either the incorrect band splits or too beat up plus i didnt have a cable with me so i got the vhf 380, so far, so good, so i know its only gonna be good as a ham radio here, and to moniter some simulcast public safety, but even just that is more to offer then a 2 meter yeasu ht, for a ham ht, there just not making them the way i want one, and the bad part is they used to, the vx7r would have been great to get on 6 meters and 222 those are things id like but now there not available, i wanted to stay with simplex use so all the new ham stuff really does not appeal. The durability is not even a qiestion, the filtering is superb the scanning is quick and responsive i just hate to think theres a ham ht that offers all this that i didnt find, ita very difficult to shop for hts at this time, there all clogged up with baofengs and while i do appreciate them it makes finding real good quality gear hard to find. I feel like i made the right decision, i wanted a simple radio with good components, i also want more experience with motorola.
