a question for all of you motorola experts / gurus / etc ... i seem to have remembered hearing that motorola ht 1000 portables were once available in 128 channel format - or maybe it wasn't quite that many ... ha. anyway - how does one navigate through all of his or her frequencies with such a high cap. radio? i'd see that to be a little tough unless the radio "makes it easy." specifically, i'm looking for a vhf portable with a bunch (50+) channel spaces ... something narrowband would be nice ...
Thanks,
Lars

The HT 1000 had only up to 16 modes(channels).

But the MT2000 and MTS2000 are the same platform of the HT 1000 but they can have up to 160 modes with a Model II or III radio, I think. They have zones that have 16 modes in a zone if you use a the top 16 selector knob as the channel knob. To navigate your zones you use a menu selection or the A/B/C switch for the first 3 zones.

You can also program the top 16 selector knob as the zone selector and use a menu selection for the channel up and down.

These units can be narrow band but depends on the age of the firmware.

Hope this helps, Batlabs has information on these unit so try www.batlabs.com. It was down when I posted this.

The portables on our Motorola trunking system have 160 Talk Groups.
There are 2 rotary switches.
One switch has letters A to J, the other has numbrs 1-16. Each agency has a template, or matrix, showing the TGs they can use. For example, on the fire template, B1 is Fire Dispatch, D16 is U.S. Coast Guard, E11 is a Police tactical channel, J14 is an area hospital.
I'm not sure, but some agencies may not have such large capability.
