To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone, I'm looking to update the firmware on my HT-1250 LS. Right now it's @ R02.00.01... And yes I know it's OLD... I am also having problems with the radios transmit capabilities. It receives just fine but when I try to TX it's almost like the radio is not applying enough wattage. I tested it with my CP-50 and can't even hardly get a signal from the HT to my other radio from one room over... So what do you think... Is the radio shot or is it able to be fixed. I have the CPS to program the radio, The appropriate cable and an RLN4008 Radio Interface Box. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How old is the radio exactly? have you dropped it any place? maybe in the waters or maybe its just old.. but that shouldnt be an issue, it could be firmware or you have a different issue.

It cant be anything with PL codes but read it again and see if something was changed or take it to a shop to examine it "unless you are the shop" then who knows.. if its shot.. if you toss it :D im looking but as i was told before, never use a different antenna except for the one specified, could you have switched antennas before?

I would suggest run it through your CPS again and look thoroughly on what you have in it, you might have changed something or the radio is shot

Well interesting thing... I actually found this HT1250 layin on the side of the road. It's the LS version. Who know's the thing is probably shot. I may just have to take it to a shop or something and have someone look it over and see if the componets in the radio are all good. If it works that would be great, as they are pretty expensive... If not well at least the battery and case are all still good so it's not a total loss.

Power output issue can be a couple things. If the radio bounced off of a vehicle and landed in the street, the antenna lug on the circuit board may have broken loose. It could be as simple as resoldering it.

I had an HT1250 where the PA was shot. That's not an easy fix.

Firmware is easy enough to update....most shops can do it. The problem you may have is your version of CPS might be too old once the firmware is updated.
