To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can anyone tell me if HT1000 has the same pin config as MTS2000? I ask you because I have a Nacre Quietpro system and in its description it specifies that " compatible with XTS-HT1000 series". Now I have the occasion to buy an MTS2000 III radio....is it compatible with Nacre Quietpro?
Thanks!

I saw that there are some other topics regarding the right radio ( less expensive one ) for Nacre Quietpro and I have a little problem: I foud here in Romania a couple of MTS2000 for about 160$. The seller claimed that the radios were in UHF 403-470MHz and they are complete with new batteries and chargers. I allmost gave him the money when I discovered that the collor of the insulator on the antenna was yellow. I know that the yellow antenna is in VHF 136-150.8MHz. The antenna should be in grey as far as I know. I asked him to show the labels from the backs of the radios and he told me there isn`t one, they have none. I looked for another sellers and no MTS2000 has the OEM tags. What is the matter with this radios? Fake ones? China maybe?
I was very dissapointed ant I searched the Ebay trying to find a good radio . I found :
Motorola XTS3000 I UHF 403 477MHz Narrowband ASTRO25 $149 99 | eBay
Can anyone advise me?

The only way to reliably determine the frequency range or band of a programmable Motorola radio is to read it with software. Anyone can change an antenna on the radio you're looking at to another band but the antenna's color dot signifies nothing about the true range of the radio.

I understand but he said that the radios were in UHF 403-470 MHz. Why put an VHF antenna to an UHF radio? The SWR will be huge :( I also heard that is a practice among some people to case an MTX800 into a MTS2000 case. Also it seemed very strange to me that all the MTS2000 I found here in Romania none had the original tags.

that is a basic P25 48 freq radio. The seller is a good upstanding guy I have dealt with him.Your HT1000 accessories will work with that radio also.

By the way, for this type of radio....do you have to purchase a vocoder board or is already installed? Does it work without it?
It already has it. In fact, this one will come working on both analog and P25 digital without having to do anything except programming it.

Does any one knows if XTS3000 will communicate in digital with GE Ericsson Orion? Do they share the same digital standard? Is it possible to load the same key encription into both radios?

It depends, which model Orion are you talking about?

Also, radios don't always have all the options enabled. While an XTS3000 may be capable of P25, it doesn't mean that the radios flash code has the P25 enabled. It could be an analog only radio.

So, you would need to know the flash code for the XTS-3000, and be sure it operates on the same frequencies as the Orion.

For the orion, you'd need to know it worked on the same frequencies as the XTS, and if it had the P25 function enabled.

Crypto depends on the exact type used. You would also need to determine that from the XTS flashcode and whatever the Orion uses. If they both do AES, then they should be good to go.

There are a lot of little details in between that needs to be addressed, it isn't necessarily a slam-dunk.

The Orion I was talking about has a 403-440MHZ band split. And lets presume that the XTS has 403-470MHz band split. In the programming software ( for Orion) you can set Conventional /Digital TX/RX ; Trunking and P25. The last one (P25) is not active because I believe is not suported. I tested the Orion ( I have two of them ) Both in Conventional and Digital and they work fine. My above question was if the XTS3000 would also communicate with the other two in digital ( not P25 and not trunking).
If XTS3000 does only conventional with the two Orions than is just as good as HT1000....am I right?
By the way , conventionaly speaking what is the difference between HT1000 and XTS3000, excepting the number of chanels?

Someone else more familiar with the Orion would need to answer that question...

Right, unless you get a really good deal, I'd suggest the HT1000's. Lots more available for these radios accessory wise.

A lot. Completely different radio, although most of the audio accessories and the battery chargers are interchangeable. HT1000 is an analog only radio, 16 channels. XTS3000 will do trunking, digital, analog, more functions, etc. All dependent on the flashcode, of course.
