Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey-

Quick question. Does anyone know if the Motorola HT1250 can have Alpha characters in the radio's transmitted ID and if so, how many alphanumeric characters is the ID limited to?

For example, our radios are currently IDed as:
331A
331B
331C
331D
331E
331F

Is it possible to rename them as such:
331DRIVER
331OFFICER
331OVM
331ROOF
331IRONS
331CAN

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

You can "alias" them, so the radio will show the text you want instead of an ID number. In CPS, you need to add "MDC Aliases." I don't have my programming laptop handy so I can't give you exact directions but if you go into the CPS help file and search for "mdc aliases" it will show you what to do.

Valid MDC ID's are 0000-FFFE

You can try to be creative bound by that limitation, but if its just radio to radio, alias the ID. Should be under MDC Call List where you can do it.

Just remember, make ONE codeplug and then CLONE the rest of the radios. If radios go out and are serviced and you use spares, this will allow you to make sure the new/changed one all reads the same. Use and edit ONE codeplug otherwise you'll have multiple files and radios running different revisions and will create a headache down the road.

Also consider possible side effects of using display ID's... IE people watching the radio display rather than their surroundings and getting hurt/distracted etc. Great for dispatchers who will see it, distraction for the actual users.
